It gets to be a bt of a reach if the screen was placed back further into the dash. Unfortunately in my car (Outback wagon) the oversized sunroof floods almost all of the screen with sunlight, and with the touchscren basically turns the whole monitor into a mirror. Now I don't get to enjoy the sunroof

Let me know if you ever find anythng that matches the factory bezel texture. I finished mine with some rubberized bumper spray paint and sanded and painted to match the dash so the match is pretty close, but I would prefer the rubberized smooth feel of the factory bezel.

As for my setup in the Outback, it is a laptop that clips down onto a docking station run from an inverter off of the lighter plug in the trunk. I ran the wires under the rear seat (but not the carpet as I couldn't figure out how to get it up) behind the stereo ot the screen. I also installed a remote power button soldered into the docking station to turn on the laptop (and turn off when it crashes :P)

My only two complaints about the wiring in my system is that I didn't order the clock relocation kit soon enough and get darkfox1's extra wires for it, so I cut and spliced the factory harness. Then I broke down and got the relocation kit so the clock would sit nicely where the ashtray is. That and I would like a better wiring setup for the VGA/USB/Power.

I was thinking of getting a project board and soldering the connections onto it and building a custom wiring harness for all 3 lines so it would be a quick disconnect for when I need to pull it out, etc... but I haven't gotten around to it/not sure the best way to approach it. I really don't like the idea of having the VGA calbe connected halfway down behind the radio and the USB extention cord/USB hub setup for the GPS and touchscreen the way it is now. I'll post pics one of these days...
Good to know another legacy/carputer enthusiast!

There is someone over there at legacygt.com using JDM 2 din bezel with new lilliput screen for his carpc project, I think the outcome is very good, but cost too much just for the JDM bezel.($259)
I would like to know which paint can match the stock bezel texture as well, I am thinking to use the NAV bexel and add a two line matrix lcd display (VFD) to fill in the open area where the stock NAV buttons locate. Then get OBDII data to disply on that part. The problem for the NAV bezel is its 6.5" screen opening size instead of 7"...

If we want to go for the "make our own bezel" route, I think the paint/texture is the critical part.
Or we can wait for something like WRX bolt on screen bezel.(Darkfox's project?)

I heard someone complained about the sunlight reflection issue because of the sun roof. However, I don't have a sun roof, maybe that's why everything is still readable even it is noon time on a sunny day.
Do you think you can "cave in" the screen more? like some of the new BMW 5's setup?

I just bought my 06 Legacy GT sedan and I'm putting my carputer from my old car into. I will going the route of the stock 06 NAV bezel and hopefully it will work the way I'm imagining in my head. It's on its way and I hope to have it installed this weekend or next.

Your install looks awesome! I'm hoping my 7" lilly fits in the bezel.

Stage3legacy : did you have to remove your spare tire for the boot install or did you just put plank on top of the spare tire ?

    Great looking installation btw !!

We have a tray that sits on top of the spare and then the trunk cover.

Is this tray stock or modified version ?

I do have similar cover on top of the spare tire (mit airtrek/outlander).
but it's not tall enough in there to house the ampie case.
guess I have to do it like you guys just put everything in there without the casing, NEAT AND COOL !!

(or maybe yank the spare tire out all together, then I'll really have alot of room in there . . but then the wife will yell at me because the tire under the bed)

stage3 : did you have to put anti-slip matt underneath your hardware to stop them from moving coz I assume you'll be turbo'ing" around in your fast car

that tray is a black foam thing on top of spare tire.
    yes, it is stock.
I use screws to fasten everything in place on a wooden board. Well, due to the ^%&$^& HIGH gas price, I drive like a grandma now...
