Ford Focus and my first shot at the carPC

I have wanted to do this for a while, but it's taken some time to gather the right parts without putting out any money. after months of scavenging I have round one in place...

Here is what it looked like before...

    and here is after...

not much change, but that was the point. Tried to use mostly unusable space for the PC. I have to keep an eye on temps to be sure it is venting OK though.

Here is a shot of the guts. It is in 3 layers. First is the Hardboard that I used to cut the entire shape of the side. It isn't very stiff, but doesn't need to be. Second layer is Luan board. Used on interior doors. I cut it as a good base that would hold screws. Third layer is the motherboard tray from an old case. Also mounted a hard drive cage on there from the same cage.

Here are some shots of the temporary mounting spot for the 7" touch screen that is used as the primary control. Ignore the cigarette lighter plug. I cut if and hardwired it to the PC power supply today. The PSU is sweet. It boots the PC when the ignition is started and has settings of 10 seconds, 10 minutes and 20 minutes for an auto shut down. So It boots up when I start the car and shuts down after I turn it off. all automatically. very cool. I also have a couple have a decent shot of the software used as well. It uses MP3 tags and will play videos too. I am still playing with it, but it can launch external apps and stuff too. I am tinking some game emulators for old school arcade stuff.

So what do you think? I have extra plans for the next steps too. I have a 14" LCD that I got from my inlaws that I am working on a mount for. It will go behind tha passenger seat for the kid. Going to mount some headphone jacks in the backseats too. And the power cables need to be upgraded for long term usage.

I just realized that a couple parts of my post sound a little silly posted here. I copied the post from one I made on another forum that isn't as knowledgeable as this one.
