I'm not bickering with anyone BTW. I just wanted something more concrete than just "that's a bad connection, you should solder or crimp". I've gotten enough feedback to rethink my methods but since nobody had corrected me in the many years I've been doing this I've never bothered changing my methods. Never had an issue with a cable coming lose or from electrical tape just spontaneously coming off which I don't see happening if you put the tape on correctly anyways. There's electrical tape in some places in the engine and that's on there for years and years under much more intense heat than behind the dash.

These "accidents" where most likely cables badly connected with crimps or twisted together and I can fathom that happening in that case. Plus good quality electrical tape won't undo itself. 3M is one of those that will last forever.

Heh, I had a rat burn down my boathouse last year. He chewed through the water pump wire and caught on fire, proceeding to run into a wall and caught the whole damn thing on fire.

The only reason I know this is because we found the wires chewed on, and the skeleton of a rat on the other side of the boat house where the fire started. If I didnt have 10K worth of boating equipment in there I would have found it funny as all hell.

More than anything else, soldering is the reason that I take on projects that I don't think I can do. It seems more of an addiction than a necessity, though I have had my dash catch on fire cause I am a dummy. Aftermarket headlights, my headlight switch caught on fire. Be careful, that **** sucks, and it will always happen when you don't want it to, like on a date.

your right i ment t say shocked not electricuted. and the shock came from some underbody neons that as you may know are transformed from 12v to several hundred(i dont know howmany please tont post...). anyhooo i think that he might learned his lesson.

Keep up the good work i like the install sofar, I'm lagging on my install a bit.

FYI for the relief of most I'll be taking out the wiring probably this weekend and soldering all the wires. This might improve sound quality I suspect as well as ground the stero a little better. Will also be messing with RoadRunner program a bit to see if it'll fit my needs. Ordered iGuidance v3.0 upgrade as well in hopes that it'll look better than the version I currently have.

Yes I gave up!

I'll be stopping at Radio Shack on my way home today to get some shrinkwrap since that's the only thing I don't have (was considering doing the soldering and just taping it back up but I then realized this would be as bad as what you all have been burning me for). At least half of the work is done in regards to this. The soldering shouldn't be too hard. The interesting thing will be finding a good grounding point behind the stereo somewhere.
