    Question

So far on that same fuse there is the laptop, the amp power lead, 2 power outlets (1 with the radar detector and the other with the air freshener -> removed the air freshener), a purple neon tube, and a partridge in a pear tree.

    I'm thinking it's the partridge

If it's shorting out with something it's not doing it with the radar detector unplugged. Unless the radar detector itself is what's causing the short somehow. This thing does some "extra" features besides being a radar detector so it's a possibility it doesn't agree with something on the stereo. Oh and there's no other "shady" connections. Everything is straight through to the cable where this fuse is at. Also have to mention that when the fuse was blowing it would only do so if I turned on the laptop and turned on the screen into PC mode. If I operated the stereo in just FM radio mode it would be fine

it sounds like your fuse isn't the propper size for what all you have on it.

You need to find out how much amperage everything pulls at max current.

Not to mention, running a single fuse on all of this isn't a smart idea either.

you really should be running a dedicated fuse to each component and a main fuse at the battery.

How big is your amp again?

    You're running:

    • amp
    • screen
    • laptop
    • 2 power outlets (radar and air freshner)
    • XM PCR
    • USB hubs
    • god knows what else you've failed to mention...

all of that on a ?? amp fuse? What size fuse is it?

    no wonder.

you REALLY need to learn the bare minmum is basics before you tackle a project like this. That's just common sense.

    Unhappy

Who said anything about 60 amps? That sucker is the stock fuse rated at 15 amps

I never took into consideration the power requirements to tell you the truth. I'm not sure what to do at this point...

    ****

    seriously man....15 amps...

I'm coming to the conclusion that you really are way in over you head.

I'm actually so incredibly take aback that I'm going to have to sit on this one a while so I don't rip you 2 new ones.

    Here we go again...

Like I said I don't know where to go from here...I've thought about wiring it directly to the battery bypassing the use of any of the small stock fuses but that's just dumb as well because then the laptop would be always charging and would drain the battery. Only other option would be to add a switch to all that (wire gauge is more than enough BTW up until probably the wires on the wiring harness of the stereo) but then it would require I and my wife remember to switch it off. I would probably remember but she won't...

Looking for options here...not a lecture.

do your research! How hard is that to understand?! There are options for laptops that do what you are talking about!

    *sigh*

You DO need a lecture because apparently you're not going to get it on your own!
