That's why Wiki might be useful, because some people simply don't like "forum layout" for finding info. Few years ago, I absolutely hated forum-based things, it doesn't make sense at first for stuff that is not discussion related. Anyway, glad you found there are other forums here

Do put more fuses like Jan suggested! Actually what she said you're playing with fire is literate...

I don't even think that for folks like this guy a Wiki would do a damn bit of good.

FAQ type items work great in a Wiki format, but this hobby is very heavily based on discussions and trial and error.

There are best practices in anything you do, this is no different.

If the guy just assumes he knows everything and doesn't even THINK to do even a lick of research before attampting something like this, there are other issues there. Be it intellegence, lazyness, ignorance, or what-have-you, there's something else there that a Wiki wouldn't help in the least.

You know...there's a word for women like you. But I'll remain a gentleman and not say it.

I've read some of your other posts when it comes to inexperienced people and most borderline on offensive. You like talking down to people and making yourself seem better than them. If that's what makes you sleep better at night and feel good about yourself then I feel sorry for you. I don't think you were born knowing any of the stuff you contribute to this forum. I'm sure you had some trial and error issues just like anyone else. Just because there's someone posting here that doesn't know as much as you do about this whole carPC stuff doesn't mean you need to make them feel like idiots.

Still reading up on my options for powering the laptop... of couse I thank you for what you've recommended and I appreciate the help you've provided so far but sheesh...cut me some slack will ya.

FYI I had already disconnected as many items as I can from the accessories line so the power drain is currently only from the laptop and the amp remote lead.

No - what you need to understand is that you are quite literally playing with fire.

You are completely inexperienced and have absolutely no desire to try and learn anything more. you yourself even said it. You came on this board only wanting to show off your project. This is not a project you can just throw together, cross your fingers, and hope that it works. You are playing with electricity. That's not a fluffly little stuffed animal, it's a deadly creature.

There is a reason that there are standards. I've tried to explain those to you but you insist on ignoring them. Then you come back in here with more problems. it's quite apparent that you have no desire to be helped or taught or even led in the right direction. So I'm sorry if I come across as a '*****' as you have implied, but quite honnestly, you're not doing yourself any better.

It's been made quite apparent to me that the only way to get a point across to you is for it to A) either come from another male B) have someone laugh and point a finger C) start yelling.

The way you have done things in your ride is nothing short of disgusting and HIGHLY dangerous. I surely hope that you have no little children that you have exposed to this danger as that would be HIGHLY irresponsible.

I've tried to help you on a few occasions and you've refused to listen or even see the point I'm making. So sorry if I've now gotten to the point that I'm disgusted beyond all belief. You want to fry your car and expose both yourself and your wife to these dangers? Be my guest, just don't go and feel sorry for yourself when you didn't even bother to go and even attempt to do your own research to find the proper way of doing things.

From your last sentence, it doesn't even sound like you have your amp remote lead wired up correctly.

I'll leave you to your own vices. I tried to help initially by pointing out that you might want to consider making your connections the proper way. you turned your nose up at that, only to have a multitude of others come in here and say the same things. Lo and behold, you decided that MAYBE you should listen. You then come in here complaing of your fuse popping all the time, when you quite obviously have entirely too much draw to be using A) a stock fuse B) a fuse of a rating of 15amps.

Enjoy your toasted car. Just let me know the vin so I don't happen to stumble across it and consider buying it on a used lot, or even in a junk yard.

So that gives her and anyone else the right to speak whatever way they'd like to others on here? I remind you that this is a forum where people are supposed to help each other even if it is to say to search and that it's been covered before. I'd take even that but not a "you're just anal and don't want to listen". And like I said already...I've taken her advice already and redid my wiring so it's not like I'm not listening to her...I'm just feeling a bit of tension and arrogance and not feeling welcome.

I guess you missed the part where I said that the amp lead is a wire straight to where it's supposed to go. You don't know what you're talking about in regards to my setup so I'll break it down for you in simpler terms:
Wire is SCREWED into the amp as it should be.
From there it's wired to the stereo's harness using a splicer.
Added to that is a ton of electrical tape to make sure there are no accidents.
The laptop is powered by an adapter for the car so it's plugged into yet another outlet that has it's power wire spliced into the amp lead and the ground is screwed into the body of the car where another ground is at.
Want to tell me what I did wrong there?

After doing stereo wirings the way I had been doing them for a long time all I was asking was for empirical evidence of why I should do it the way you were saying not just "STFU and do as I say" and so others were able to do that. I would have done it right away and listed on the first try had you answered with a straight-forward answer.

The way to do your connections is a matter of opinion. You can either crimp or solder or wire them up as I have...it's all about preference. I don't buy your comment about it being "safer" to do it any of the other ways. What if you don't solder the wires correctly or the crimp isn't tight enough? What then? The wire comes lose and makes contact with God knows what behind the deck. I find that to be a bigger hazard
You are saying right here you know better .... but you do not, not really... not at all.

You earned the treatment you are getting!

And why is it "NOT" a matter of opinion? Do you have first hand experience or annecdotes of fires being started in a car because of correctly tied up and taped up stereo connections?
Yet more evidence. Here is an example you might relate to. House wiring is not a matter of opinion.... Codes and best practices exist because someone already made the mistake, sometimes it cost a life. Now we have electrical inspectors to inforce house wiring standards.

I do not want my car insurance to go up because you mess up and start your car on fire.

See: it is a warning sign that you are not listening... too late now.

Even looked up stuff for you... I guess you did not see the spoon.
