No I don't. I guess you missed the part where I accepted the correction/bashing and redid my wiring. Try reading a bit more next time.

Ok...I think I have it now. After over an hour of searching and reading and getting schooled I ran into this thread:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/383433-post.html
which mentions an SPDT relay which can turn on and off the required equipment when the car turns on or off. So I'll be going to the store and getting the relay for this. Also going to look for a power distribution block. This would be the easiest way to put this into practice since the power lead that goes to the amp is plenty thick at 4 gauge and should handle the laptop power easily.

Ok Red... does this sound like a viable plan? Contrary to what you may think...I do value a woman's input

Did not miss it... but nice justification. Shortly after that you went right back to the "prove it" to me stance. The breif glimmer of hope died... this defensive post killed it completely.

Don't really understand what you're talking about. I didn't ask anyone to prove anything after that whole wiring thing which I eventually corrected (was that not the point of making me feel like a dumbass to begin with?). After I mentioned the fuse popping I didn't ask anyone to prove anything...just asking questions and poking around as to what's going on. Red more than answered that even if it was in an arrogant fashion and I'm taking steps to correct THAT as well. I realize that some of you who know your stuff are worried about everyone's safety and have that "you dumbass" mentality when it comes to not-so-electronics-savvy people such as myself so I can see why you'd be this way...

In German there's a saying which comes to mind when reading through threads like this one:

"Wer nicht hören will muß fühlen" which roughly translates to "he who doesn't want to listen, must experience for himself."

    Good luck with the project.

That being said, this is sooo smart and knows so much about all of it that she cannot fathom how anyone could not take time to research every detail or know of every important detail before implementing something with such disasterous consequences beforehand.
Yeah...I figured as much. She seems very smart and knowledgeable about the topic. Probably should have lurked around before posting and seen that. Oh well...that's what I get

I was absolutely elated to see that you went through and soldered your joints andheat shrunk them. HUGE step in the right direction. And if you've really stopped and think about this part of the install now, then it's been worth it.

    Good luck!

Ok...well I blew the fuse today and the laptop wasn't even on...

    Here are my observations:
The stereo has it's own fuse which initially doesn't pop.
The accessories fuse doesn't pop right away when I turn on the stereo. The darned thing keeps going as if there's no short.
If I don't turn on the stereo the fuse doesn't pop.
I turned it on and was listening to FM radio for some time and decided to crank it up. After a while the fuse decided to pop.
In troubleshooting this problem which didn't happen with the stock stereo I found that when I replace the accessories fuse the stereo's fuse then pops but everything else is functional indicating that maybe the problem is the head unit. This behaviour only started when the weather got really hot.
Also need to mention that I had the amp and Bazooka already hooked up and working...for 4 years as a matter of fact. The only thing that has changed is the head unit and the laptop being spliced into the amp's remote lead.

Has anyone heard of the headunit causing a short internally but also intermitently? Sounds like maybe the built in amp is overheating and overloading the fuse? I'm going to go through all the connections to make sure I don't have a short somewhere. I went and bought the relay so I'm thinking that maybe I'll run the stereo on this instead of the laptop which should be fine with the power adapter being for the car anyways (not using an inverter). Thoughts?

Well...just verified that it's the head unit doing it

    Here's what I did:
Replaced blown fuse and turned on car.
Listened to FM radio for a few minutes and then POP went the fuse...
Took the head unit out and unplugged the harness from the back of the stereo.
Replaced blown fuse again and turned on car.
Everything works fine until I plug in the harness then it pops the fuse immediately. After a few minutes I am able to plug in the harness without popping the fuse. Now I'm really stuck...I'll try searching around here to see if this has happened to anyone else.
