Did he mod his gauges too? Looks cool. I dont know if i want to take the time to completly rip my dash out to add the lcd and stereo.

At my work we have an SLA machine. I was planning on designing a replacment dash piece that I could mount my screen and dvd-RW drive in. The parts dont come out very strong but i thought fiberglass reinforcement would be perfect. I will take some pictures if i get around to it.

Okay so I worked on this design for about 2 hours now. I will probably add a usb port, cig plug, on/off switch but im not sure what else. Anyone have any ideas before i make a plastic part?

Edit: I forgot. Its a replacement for my original dash. With a cutout for my 8 inch screen.

Okay some more pics. I just got the dash part today. So I pulled out my old dash and new screen and test fit the new dash. The fit was alittle tight and i couldn't get it to push all the way flat. I guess i missed one cutout on the back of the dash. So i cut back on the dash a little. Still nothing. Then i realized it was hitting on something else. So i cut more out. Finally got it to fit. To bad i cut on the other part first! I kinda needed that part to make the tight fit. oh well.

Second i needed to cleen up the button area. I couldn't get the plastic buttons to fit in the grove. So i had to dremil the whole section down flat. Now the buttons fit. edit: oh yah i forgot the led hole!

Third i mounted the screen and snapped two of the four mounts in half I guess i should have made them bigger. Anyways, i just cut them flat to the back of the dash piece and drilled new holes. Remounted screen with some metal standoffs, where i cut the plastic ones off, and i hear a crack! The damn standoff was right on the edge of the touch screen! Luckly it only snapped off a small piece of the edge. So i loostened up the screw and reposistioned the standoff and then retightend.

Put everything in the truck and fired it up. Looks nice and all the buttons work. The touch screen still works, thank god. Now i need to take it all apart and sand and paint the new dash.

Still have no idea where to put the carputer. Plus i need to get a new power supply. The crappy one i have doesn't work all the time.

License and insurance in my wallet. Registration.....stuck under my bench seat with everything else i pulled out from the glove box. Crazy thing is I dont even have my Carputer installed right now. So the screen is just taking up space!

I'm currently waiting for my truck to die. I think my carputer system / sound system cost more then i could sell my truck for. Which is sad. In fact i think i make more money in one paycheck (after taxes) Then my truck is worth.

I need to find the right vehicle for my system. I want to get an Endeavor But hesitant because the stereo is integrated into the dash with the a/c controls. Its all one piece. Without going crazy on it, i dont see how i would get a screen modded into it!!!

My next choice is the chevy trail blazer. Which looks like it can be modded easily. Oh well i should just go to the dealership and buy something newer then what i have........

......Anyone have any good ideas for a $15,000 small SUV. Something 2003 or newer. I found tahoes for 18,000 which i could aford but they had almost 100,000 miles on them. I mean crap 100,000 and it cost 18k. Anyways, maybe i just need to cut my expenses back and spend some money on a nice SUV....
