Looks cool!
I see that you have the Focal Utopia Be set. How well do they perform off axis? I can't think of anyone here that is really into sound q. There aren't hardly any competitions for sq around here. I guess the last one I was at was in 05 when I judged the car show part of Spring Break Nationals. Hopefully I'll be taking a vehicle down there to compete next year. Wish there was more of a demand for it here. People around here are too cheap. All they want is a loud sub with a cheap amp and 30 tweeters hooked up to a cheap cd player.
I was actually planning on doing the regular Utopia series back before they came out with the new one but decided to go with the Dynaudio. I'm still undecided with what to go with on the blazer. I'm thinking about doing it straight sound q. I'll be honest with you, I have the Kicker SS Component set with a 7" midbass in my work truck and they sound wonderful. My problem with that is that it is Kicker. They aren't really know for their sound q side but I can get them cheap LOL Oh well....enough rambling on about sq....I have to drive about 6 hours to ever listen to a nice setup....guess i need to move huh?
Looks cool!
Sweet jesus.. It's.. Umm very green..
Nice work

Woah! Wish I had the patience and skill to do something half as good as that! Looks god!
Great, they are designed to be completely off axis actually.
Unfortunately, there haven't been any SQ comps here in the D/FW area in quite some time. I know that USACi and IASCA are both working on it. It's unfortunate.I can't think of anyone here that is really into sound q. There aren't hardly any competitions for sq around here.
We are currently planning on making it next year as well.I guess the last one I was at was in 05 when I judged the car show part of Spring Break Nationals. Hopefully I'll be taking a vehicle down there to compete next year.
previously we've gone to South Padre, but it was only 7 hours for us then. Not it's 10 hours for us to go there, compared to the 14-15 to get to Florida. Now the few extra hours isn't that big of a deal.
LOL! There's plenty of that to go around. How about a 6 pack of by nines?Wish there was more of a demand for it here. People around here are too cheap. All they want is a loud sub with a cheap amp and 30 tweeters hooked up to a cheap cd player.
Nothing wrong with Dynaudio!I was actually planning on doing the regular Utopia series back before they came out with the new one but decided to go with the Dynaudio.
Go for it! I'd love to see the progress of something like that.I'm still undecided with what to go with on the blazer. I'm thinking about doing it straight sound q.
I understand that. However, I'd also take that as a challenge. See just how good you can make them sound. You would learn a heck of a lot in the process. My husband and I have thought about setting a budget of 1500 for product and heading off to WalMart for that product. Just to see what we can do with it.I'll be honest with you, I have the Kicker SS Component set with a 7" midbass in my work truck and they sound wonderful. My problem with that is that it is Kicker. It's a rare breed, unfortunately...Oh well....enough rambling on about sq....I have to drive about 6 hours to ever listen to a nice setup....guess i need to move huh?![]()

A six pack laying on the rear deck right? LOL There are too many peoples "cousins" doing installls around here and screwing things up.
I don't know of they are doing it there or not. But here they are actually taking PA speakers and placing them behind the grille of the car and wiring them to an amp. The "highs" are obnoxious as it is and then that is added. By "highs" I mean tweeters of course. I think that is the correct name right? LOL
I will be totally honest with you. Alot of the better sounding systems I have heard have been fairly inexpensive and very simple. I really wish I had more time when I went to Daytona to go listen to some vehicles. I listened to Alma's Bronco but that was really about it. The only reason I heard it was because I judged it. I really wanted to go listen to Gary's but he wasn't around every time I went by. I think if anyone really wants to get an idea of what something should sound like...they should go listen to his. I've seen his score sheets and it was VERY impressive. I heard that Mark Elridge went to JL. He should be able to do something nice with them. I think they have some nice stuff. The W6 and W7 anyway. Their "normal" line of woofers is way over-priced though. By the way...where did you get the Focal from? I have seen them listed here on the internet but didn't know if you went through a dealer or became a dealer yourself. I can't remember what the buy in is anymore. I have an old sheet around here somewhere. But I guess if you bought those that would make your buy in huh? LOLI understand that. However, I'd also take that as a challenge. See just how good you can make them sound. You would learn a heck of a lot in the process. My husband and I have thought about setting a budget of 1500 for product and heading off to WalMart for that product. Just to see what we can do with it.
hehe - Almas bronco is nice, don't get my wrong, but it's not world class in terms of sound. I've yet to hear a positive review of that car.
She's a great woman, and her presence will be missed greatly in the sport since she's now retired...
I'll always have a place for her and what she accomplished in this sport in my mind.
Gary is actually rebuilding a team members car right now. Actually, that team member, left his posistion as head installer at another shop, to go work with Gary in Tulsa at Car Toys. Unfortunately, the car doesn't look like it will make it to IASCA finals this year....bummer, but it will be at USACi. I can't wait to hear that car!
I'm actually sponsored by Orca (who is the importer and distrubiter for Focal here in the states). All of our hard work and hard earned money that we've spent has finally paid off...lol....kinda at least. We're not fully sponsored. Have no desire to be at this point. They don't give us free product.
I'll never buy anything online. Especially not from Woofersetc.com. Too many stories revolving around that particular site for sure.
You should be able to get accomidation pricing if you're a dealer for Focal though. No need to buy in bulk for accomidation pricing.
Any reason you decided not to compete in IASCA this year?

Honestly I wasn't impressed with it. I have a feeling it wins alot in her class because of who she is.
I agree. I had a chance to talk to her and be around her for a while last year and she is really a down to earth person. She doesn't have a big head like some others I have met. She's a great woman, and her presence will be missed greatly in the sport since she's now retired...![]()
Who's car? I really don't like Unique Whips on tv because all they do is basic installs for the most part and charge rediculous prices. I did watch the one with tony stewarts car though. It was pretty good. I do have to say that Steve Brown is the man!Gary is actually rebuilding a team members car right now. Actually, that team member, left his posistion as head installer at another shop, to go work with Gary in Tulsa at Car Toys. Well that is nice to have a sponsorship. I wouldn't mind having one but with my work I can't guarantee I can be at any certain place at any certain time.I'm actually sponsored by Orca (who is the importer and distrubiter for Focal here in the states). What is the problem with wooferetc.com? I work at a shop part time and didn't really want to buy into dynaudio or image dyanamics when I was ready to build so I ordered from them. That was about 2 years ago though.I'll never buy anything online. Especially not from Woofersetc.com. Too many stories revolving around that particular site for sure.
I can get accomodation pricing for Kicker, Alpine, and a few others but it wasn't what I wanted to use at the time. You should be able to get accomidation pricing if you're a dealer for Focal though. No need to buy in bulk for accomidation pricing.
It was a combination of my work getting in the way, not getting motivated enough to finish it, and almost all the competitions were at least 8 hours away. You will laugh when you hear this. I built everything for my truck in my yard. I moved in my house last September and don't have a shop yet. There is just something about standing out in 100 degree weather with the sun beating down on you that takes the fun out of it LOL Another thing is not having anyone around that is into it or not to the point of doing anything anyway.Any reason you decided not to compete in IASCA this year?
red i was just kidding! lol
i got dat ***** sittin on 22s! SUPERMAN EDITION!

See, we're not fully sponsored. We don't receive free product. We aren't bound to be anywhere. We do this because we enjoy it.Well that is nice to have a sponsorship. I wouldn't mind having one but with my work I can't guarantee I can be at any certain place at any certain time.
We just receive a discount and a helping hand.
They have been known to ship counterfit products. I just sold a set of Audison amps to a guy who was adamant that they didn't come from them originally. He purchased a set of amps from them that upon recieving them he found that the serial numbers had been scratched off. Not only on the outsides of the amp, but also on the inside. That's highly illegal, especially when shipping across state lines. What is the problem with wooferetc.com? I work at a shop part time and didn't really want to buy into dynaudio or image dyanamics when I was ready to build so I ordered from them. That was about 2 years ago though.
Orca has had some people try and claim warranty on 'Focal' products that were purchased from Woofersetc.com. Upon reciept, they were found to be fradulant. I've read elsewhere where others have run into the same issues.
It's sad really, that a place would stoop that low.
I understand this. When we started the first build in this car, we were living in a duplex with a car port. A rickity car port at that. We currently work out of a garage that houses (among other things) 4 motorcycles, a welder, an air compressor, a table saw, a tool box, two shelving units, a detailing cabinet, and all of our other tools. Oh, and our fiberglassing table....lolI built everything for my truck in my yard. I moved in my house last September and don't have a shop yet. There is just something about standing out in 100 degree weather with the sun beating down on you that takes the fun out of it LOL Another thing is not having anyone around that is into it or not to the point of doing anything anyway.
But that's all part of what makes this fun!
