Great Work!
I just got an 05 XLT. Looking to use my 'old' laptop as a carputer. My wife cracked the screen and I would have to spend $250 to replace it anyway.
Thanks for the nice example.

Nice setup there Vzik! You have two items I want badly - the cargo cover and the rubber trunk mat -

How did you get the sound to come out of the stock speakers? Or did you add an amp, hu, etc. somewhere else? Thanks for any info as I recently got an XLS and am going to carputer it ASAP.
Hey - I'm using an amp under the seat with the stock speakers - which I plan on replacing soon since they're not the best - (waiting on some loose cash) -
Get yourself an amp and one of those installation Wire Harness kits for stock radios (Metra?) if you don't wanna run wires all over the place - Or you could always go the HU way too...Good luck - make sure you share!!
I appreciate the support![]()
One more Question though... Have you found\seen\heard of any way of installing the 7" touch in the dash without permanately damaging the stock stereo contraption. I want to put the touchscreen in but i also want to be able to take it out when i sell the car and put the original radio back in. Thanks again for your help.
The main things that hold the stock stereo in my US version are:
1) The support bar that the radio slides and sits on and 2) the front opening of the console (the contraption) - The opening is smaller than the front of the radio so the radio doesn't slide all the way inside the dash -
I had to do a bit of cutting, but I am on the same boat as you - if I ever plan on selling the car, I wanna put the stock radio, and I know I can, so I'm pretty happy about that!![]()
Fray,
thanks for commenting my project. Likewise, i'm amazed at the details of your work. Nice setup with the USB hub and slim optical drive. It has that factory look. excellent work
