Let me say this-. 335i is an awesome machine. It is wicked fast; Vishnu just came up with a mad reflash for them as well (I think this is where the quoted 340 at the wheels comes from). But claiming 60 wheel horsepower thru just a chip - while possible - is gonna hurt a few things in the long run. It will destroy your cats, your turbos. You will pull more timing, generate more heat, turbos gotta be kept colder, the air taken in needs to be colder...Just a chip upgrade for that kind of power gains does not seem that reliable to me.

Now...I just wanna go on record and say it that with my 4-banger, I am not scared of a tricked out 335i. And if it is from a dig...well in that case I am not scared of many other fancier cars.

    me neither

Someone is dreaming about power figures here
BMW's site claims 306 std. And a chip alone without colder plugs, and an intercooler will put you at more risk of det which will make your lovely new engine not live very long, especially if you run it on crap fuel.

Lets see if the tubby's on the 335i prove any more reliable than those of the 330d.

I don't give two hoots if you think you are quicker, it started as an off the cuff comment and a post to correct you incorrect claims, unless that is BMW changed the spec listed on their website just for you

I still say its a lovely car though

Now get that screen fabbed in.

No way in hell I am hacking up the dashboard of my new $50k car... a "pod" sounds like a good alternative
I hear what you're saying about damaging the car, but it may be worth considering purchasing another dash, and working on that whilst out of the car, then you can just swap. A breaker might have one of those cars (especailly if somone couldn't handle it )

    great car btw

With a turbo'd car that is quite possible depending on weather/atmospheric conditions, temperatures, actual boost setting (as these can vary by a psi here and there.

And you can cheat a dyno by over inflating the driven tyres

    Back on topic though

If it were my car I would try make the screen install mimic the factory satnav and leave it looking as stock as possible, that way it looks professional, and doesn't stand out to thieves... Just MHO

"...the e46 328i came out in 2000, and the plain old 3 series had the SAME power output as the old style m3" hahaha

Damn right. I'm sure if RiXst3r wanted to just go fast, he'd buy an old nissan. He wants to do it in style and luxury, and the BMW has that in spades over an old nissan.

Threads always become a ****ing match when horsepower ratings are mentioned

Simple MathS says that said BMW is nealry 10x more expensive to buy than my Nissan, THAT WAS THE POINT!

I might not have a lot of money, but I've put together a fast well equiped car for little money.

    Looks are in the eye...

So what if you recon you have a million horsepower I know who'd be winning round a track Coilovers, 255/40 tyres, solid subframe bushes and bigger roll bars etc make my car painfull on the road but formidable on track, and with only 1280kg to drag round it shifts ok (0-100mph : 13.3seconds) - Just how I like it

Who keeps turning this into a ****ing snob war anyway? I made a comment about the BM not being 'AS' quick as an M3 which it isn't, (although it is a VERY NICE MOTOR)
and people turn it into a Brand war - BMW > NISSAN!!!

    Knob heads!

I'd rather have an R34GTR than any 3 series

    So there!

I am not sure why you keep hijacking this thread with your nissan crap, if you want to race numbers, go do it somewhere else... and go ahead and read these articles so that you can STFU about your car being "faster"

    http://paultan.org/archives/2006/08/...tead-of-302hp/

and they didnt beleive it, so they did another one...
    http://www.automobilemag.com/feature..._dyno_revised/

    And they test the chip...
    http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=119485

and it wins the 12 hour torture test...
    http://www.bimf.com.au/latest_news.a...=16&Pagecat=16

and for everyone saying that these chips will cause detonation and burn up the engines, you forget that the 335i uses direct injection, if you dont understand it, then dont bother... but here are a few goods reads on the software mods... this was from the tuner himself, while deveoping the chip for his personal 335, here is some of his early results...

    http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31578

"Still, by virtue of the new fuel mapping, it's reasonable to say that the tuned car is running more knock-free, safer and cooler than the stock car. All while making a boat load more power and torque."

Now, ShawJohn, dont make any more ignorant comments without fully reading those articles, and please dont hijack this thread, go do it over in forums that are meant for that...
