Deuce's '98 Taurus First Car PC Install
Well I finally finished my first car pc. Well actually it’s been done for a while I just hadn’t taken pix of the finished project yet. It’s in a 98 taurus, my DD. I tried a few things that I didn’t end up using, such as the abs sludge technique. This was my second fabrication project (the first being custom door kick panels which you’ll see in here at some point.) So here is what I did and a little bit on how I did it.
Obviously I did a ton of research on here, since I didn’t know car pc’s existed till early summer. Thanks to everyone on mp3car.com forums for the help.
After I pretty much decided on what I wanted for hardware I was ready to order. But I didn’t know if I was ready to take the plunge yet so I just ordered a spare liliput 619 housing off the internet so I could get a feel for what I was getting myself into. I had the stock radio which I wasn’t using, since I had since replaced it with a cd player. Since the stock radio is a big oval thing I needed a special dash kit for the new cd player, which is why the stock radio was laying around.
I never took a pic of what it started out like, but here’s one that pretty much shows it. I put the entire car pc inside the center console (the part between the seats behind the shifter.) the only thing you can see when opening the center storage area are some USB ports for adding music and my mini keyboard. ill add some pix of that soon.
Anyone that’s seen a Ford radio mount knows that it’d be pretty hard to fabricate out of nothing, and since I wasn’t using the stock radio, I decided to do a little demolition to grab out the back plate which had the dash mounts attached to it.
Then I sized up the lilliput front bezel to see how it fit…looked good
And cut out the middle of the radio backing, so all that was left was the outer ring and dash mounts.
