    2005 Dodge Ram Truckputer

Hi, this is my first project. This is going in my 2005 Dodge Ram Quad-Cab 1500 sport 4x4.

Goals: Add a truckputer that would allow for GPS/Movies both harddrive stored and DVD/MP3s. Retain a factory finish look. Be able to restore truck back to stock with minimal replacement.

I educated myself here for the past month or so reading others projects. Was a credit card swipe away from buying an AVIC-N3 and decided to give this a try.

Almost all of my parts came in this week. MP3car.com forgot to ship my cables for my power supply, so that left me some time to start fabricating parts. Cables should be here tomorow or next day.

    PC is
    -----------------------------
    Xenarc 700TSV
    80gb WD HD
    DSATX PSU 220w
    Zonet Bluetooth USB
    BIOSTAR TFORCE 6100 AM2 GF6100
    AMD|Sempron 3600+ 2.0G AM2 256K R
    MEM 512M|G.SK F2-6400PHU1-512NR
    BU-353 Weather-proof GPS Receiver USB

Case is 1/4" acryllic from lowes. Lots of misc size hardware Wood dowel for support

    To do list:
    Cut port for cables
    Install windows/software
    Install PSU cables
    Bench test/debug PC
    Install acc wire/12V+/Gnd wires
Install and fab display into console under stock head unit
Cut, port, install fan for PC

I started by removing what would be my new truckputer case from the front under-seat storage compartment. This is the under-seat storage located between the driver and passenger seats in dodge rams. I condsider myself lucky for both access, short distance, and ease. Thanks dodge!

After the case was out, I started measuring and plotting. Here's what I have so far.

    Will update as project continues.

Ignore the cell phone prop here

Inserted into the under-seat storage factory plastic. Good fit.

With any luck, I might have this thing installed and running by Sunday.

Nice install. I wish I had the under seat compartment in my Ram but I don't. Right now im working on my box though. I took out the center seat and im going to make a new console to hold the pc. Putting a indash up top then my head unit in the new console. Hope to get some pictures up soon.

    Yeah I love the underseat.

I have it installed and running. But not permanently installed. I wanted to get it in to see if it works. Now I have to clean it up and make it pretty. Currently everything is in and real close to finished, but screen isn't flush mounted in the dash yet, just mounted with the kit that came with it until i figure out exactly how I want it. Will update with more pics maybe this weekend.

Looks good so far. There are a few Dodge trucks that have gotten the royal truckputer treatment on this board. I wish I had the underseat storage option but the console I built seems to be working out for me pretty well. If you for any reason decide to re-locate your stereo, check my worklog for some tips and tricks that I learned along the way. The Dakotas and Rams are pretty similar in wiring along the lines of A/C and stereo.
Check out the updates. Project 2003 Dakota worklog: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/worklogs/85490-project-2003-dodge-dakota.html

    kireol,
Some food for thought. I am in the middle of installing a system in my 2005 dodge ram as well. One question or suggestion, I too thought of putting the motherboard upside down and at the top. but one thing botherd me. all the wait of the heatsink and fan pulling down on the motherboard everytime i hit a pump. and since the only thing that is holding everything there is some cheap plastic clips.
I decide to take out the center seat insert and suspend the mother board from the bottom of the supports and place everything above this. nothing is touching the carpet. Tell you what im confusing myself while typing and i did it. so sometime when i get time i will take some pics and post them.
Just think about it though, i hate for you to get it all up and going then the first time you hit a hole your in one.

I used 1/4" acrylic. I've even been offroading with it. It's rock solid. I had to locktite the screws, but other than that it's been perfect. It works perfectly and i've done several checks.

You are right though, it wasnt ideal.

I could use some ideas on how to get the cords under the carpet. right now I'm still just running them over the top. I'd like to have them underneath. Next nice weekend, I might try taking the molding off the A-B pillar.
