I am still debating if I want to try and cram an 8" widescreen in my dash or not. It would take some fab work. I am more worried about the height than the width. The HVAC controls may get in the way.
Lyhtspd it is just the regular lilliput screen (with WRX mount), though to be honest I am having one issue with it now that it has gotten cold. The touchscreen is not 100% reliable and disconnects and reconnects sometimes. I need to solder it to the circuit board, but haven't gotten around to it yet as the computer works fine still.

I would recommend that if you want to try to do something more difficult try an 8.4" screen instead. Then you get a lot more value b/c there are multiple vendors offering sunlight readable 8.4" screens. For some reason they are far cheaper than 7"
I just got tired is all and did not want to mess about with that part and face uncertainty. I had enough of that already![]()
I think an 8.4 would be too tall wouldn't it? Besides, I already have a source for an 8" 16:9 widescreen that has the transflective upgrade for less than what mp3car is selling the 7".![]()
Wow I'm totely inspired thx to your forum.
I want to put a 7" in my car but I dident know were to put it.

Someone tried the 8.4"

They never really finished up I guess. Had to remove the cup holder below the vents. If you got a center console from a newer WRX (the part by the E-brake) it has two cup holders in it anyway so you wouldn't lose much, but an 8: might be better. I don't know that an 8" would save you any hassle over an 8.4 though.
BTW The pads above the white connector can be soldered to without cutting of the plug if one wants and it works perfectly now. I just wanted to add that in case someone searches and finds something about the loose connector.
I finally had a 3000 miles trip with the carputer in and it was definitely awesome I am super happy with all the work and $ that went into it.
I was wondering if you could post the specs on your pc with a parts list, I'm getting ready to plan my pc for my summer project in my WRX
if possible a price list or guestimation
Thanks!
Oh sweet as a mofo!
Now that I know the GPS signal is OK from under the pod (i'll be keeping my clock) I can stash it in there and keep it off of my dash.
I wonder if my wifi antenna would be ok as well? I've never taken that pod out before. does it just pop out with some gentle persuasion?
*Edit*
Errrr, old thread
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.
I will try, though it was a while ago.
Case $20
Power Supply link 89.94
power cable link $5.99
DVD adapter $10.00 you can find it here
Motherboard $35 (socket 754)
CPU Free from broken laptop
RAM Free from broken laptop
DVD drive Free from broken laptop
Power Connector $6.00 (so it is easy to get PC in and out of car, but unecessary)
Amp Wiring kit $35 from autozone
LCD+Touchscreen+bolt in kit $270 used
Total
$470
No software prices included I figure it is irrelevant since yours may be completely different.
I would recommend you try and use a microATX board as well then you can use a cheapo s939 board or something similar. The low power AM2 chips might be good. I only used s754 b/c that is what the sempron I had was. Oh and get integrated Nvidia graphics so you can simply add the 800x480 resolution without the need for powerstrip or other tom foolery.
It pops out pretty easy, but I don't know if you can put the gps on top of clock or if it will work from beneath clock.
