Thread: Just starting custom console in 02 P71 Crown Vic

oh man, carpet is easy... assuming you got the right kind. but i found the easiest way to get started is to grab a can of 3M Super 90 spray adhesive, an pick a big flat surface on your console to start with. I start by spraying both the carpet and the surface and letting it air dry for 30 sec. to 1 min. then i lay down the carpet and press it flat. then just keep repeating that procedure and start folding it down across the surface.

it will certainly bunch up around corners, but that's easy too. Just cut the bunched up section right down the middle, lay the two flaps over eachother, and then make another cut right down where you want the seam to be. then peel away the excess and you have two flaps that match perfectly.

Lastly, if you get spray mount on the carpet, you can clean it up real easy with some lacquer thinner.

probably alot easier to see that in a picture or video of sorts, but if you run into trouble, just let me know! it's easy i promise!

Here is an updated shot of the radio facia. It will mount on the console.

Not quite finished with the vinyl install (needs glue) but it turned out pretty nice so far.

More of the vinyl covered lid. This is my first attempt at vinyl. I would like to thank my wonderful wife for her help on the vinyl. I would have butchered it if she had not shown me the error of my ways. I drove the stapler and she made the folds. Thanks doll!

looks good. i hear you can use a little bit of heat to help stretch the vinyl and tame those corners.

Well I took GoHybrid's advice and started the carpet. The 3M 90 adhesive worked very nicely. I have completed the compartment (inside) and also 2 smaller areas on the console with carpet. The only carpeting left is the 2 large side areas. I will be doing those in the next few days I hope. Thanks for the help GoHybrid.

I have started to install some of the wiring into the console. Here you see the Noise-Killer box, the bus-bar and the metal plate for the DC-DC converter for the LCD with will mount in the dash. More wire to come with everything terminating out the front so I can connect to the dash.

Carpet almost finished...I just have to put some staples into the bottom edge to clean it up.
