    LCD dash mount...

DaveStang thank you very much for your kind comment.

GoHybrid, I have thought about it, but I prob wont. Aside from it being alot of work, the only logical place to put it would be the double-din hole of the radio. Sitting in the car, the double-din area would be a "reach" for me everytime I touched the screen. It would also be "higher" in the car, and more visible to "Law Enforcement", and it still illegal for the screen to be viewable by the driver.
What do you think? Is there some other place I could put it? Let me know.

    Thanks guys,

it depends on the level of butchery you want to do. I'd hate to think you put all that effort in putting your radios in that console you made only to relocate them... but that's one place... the other thing i could think of is relocating your HVAC controls to the double din hole and cutting out a new pocket for your screen where they used to be.

I'd have to look carefully at how it all went together, but maybe spring loaded directly in front of the cupholders... don't know if that'd be too close to you, but it'd be a cool place to push it back in and store it out of sight.

i dunno... just thoughts. who is to say that it needs to be integrated either, you know? it's whatever suits you.

I was impressed with your work with the vinyl, router, and general wood-work.

A couple things I dont care for is the glossy panel behind the stereo faceplates themselves as well as the crooked wire-exposed monitor.

    But its very good.

    Lawn God,

Looking good. I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am but the radio well is 1.5 DIN. So, I will need to find another location for my 6.5 to 7 inch screen or go with a 5 inch and yank the radio out.

However, your project log has me thinking about locating it on the console somewhere or at least the computer (which is another pain to figure out a place for it.

    Thanks

    Whole car project...

The console was fun. I COULD NOT have done it without the help of you guys. Special props to GoHybrid for help on the carpet. Also Bernie for teaching me about glue. I liked the bondo and carpet parts cuz I never done'em before. I learned alot. The most important thing was patience. Take your time and do it right. Dont go on to the next thing until the last thing is right. Also, having the right tools makes it much easier.

The console is part of the larger car project. I have attached the Wifi to an external antenna mounted on the trunk. I still have to put a PA and siren in. I just got the windows tinted to 20%. I will attach the computer to the OBD II port under the dash. Also I will install larger LED arrays in the trunk for light. Thats the plan anyway.

I think the idea of the LCD in the console has much merit. It would be simple to extend the design up along the face of the dash in order to make a place for the LCD. Or even the spring loaded idea. I have already spent too many hours on that one in my head :-). I have also thought about some kind of motorized swing arm coming out of the console with a monitor attached, but I digress.
I like the console in its current form. It should be a nice "platform" for me to build onto going forward, but its by no means the last thing I will do to the car.
More features coming soon. I will post pics as installed. As always, Ideas and and commentary are welcome.

    Thanks for reading,

Very nice work. You make me feel ashamed. Such great work and custom building a center console. I never even took the time to take pictures of my install. Although I do have a fabrication project in mind for the summer.

    I have a '99 P71.

for the PA, I used a CB radio with a PA jack. This allows for me to both have a CB and a PA in one box, and it looks nice.
    I'm using a model similiar to http://www.wirelessbycobra.com/index...ct_id=417&id=2
Strangely enough, I can't find my actual model on the website or anywhere online.

I have found having the police package is handy with those two spare power leads in the foot well on the passenger side and the premade firewall opening.

I think I have all the paint on but I might want to clearcoat it before carpet. I got the carpet in but honestly, I am scared to put it on. I have never done the carpet and dont wanta screw the box up.
Anyway, here is a pic. Let me know what you think so far. Any ideas or recommedations are welcome.

    Hey Lawn,
Where did you find those nifty cup holders ("Plastic Drop-ins). What size hole was required?
