These pics are of the empty console area. I cannot find a mount point on the hump, so I will cut some contouring braces and mount them in the console. Any suggestions on securing this thing to the floor would be welcome.
Like the title says, just starting my custom console. I am a total N00b at this. I have read alot on here and other forums and you guys are all soooo much better at this than I ever will be. This is my first fab for the car. I am getting better at wood-working thanks to Bernie and harbour Freight!. I am a confirmed "Tool Whore". Have been now for about 4 years. Have purchased many fine power-tools over the years and each one makes the work that much better and easier.
Here is the "victim". and 02 Crown Vic P71.
I wanta get this uploading pics thing right, so more pics in next posting minutes from now.

This is obviously the mockup of the console. I used 1/8 inch foam mat board cuz I couldnt find cardboard big enough. $1.99 a sheet at the local Ben Franklins. Took 3 sheets and some glue to do this. very loosely done as I was more concerned with design and fit than putting in the cross-members.
Sp these are the actual panels that I cut from the templates in the previous pics. 1/2 MDF. 4x8 sheet is $15 at Homedepot. I have alot left over for versions 2 and 3 of this project.
I screwed up by routing (attempting to round) the wrong side. I caught myself before I did too much. Only the top edge was done wrong. I was going to attach a brace to that edge anyway so I have space and strength to put the hinges for the compartment door on the top. I should be able to fill in the area I rounded with bondo (thats the plan anyway) then smooth out before I attach hinges and door.
First pic are the side panel. From here, everything is a straight cut...straight is easy!
The second pic is where I used my new router and table to cut a notch in the side so it could lock into the slide of the old cup-holder / ashtray.
More pics of side panels inserted into car. Will do additional measurements from here and prob start putting some of the center (straight) peices in. Glue, clamps and screws are next. I want to build some pretty fancy compartments in this thing. Not the least of which will be a slot to hold the laptop, a hidden gun compartment, a set of doors for keyboard and mouce, a switch panel and 2 radios...
I would be very interested in any ideas or commentary you may have concerning my little project, as I am very green and wanting to do a good job.
Wish me luck...

BTW, how do you make the pics display instead of just a link?
Nice job so far!!!
You have to host the pictures else where, and insert the url to the picture...

So the saga of me creating a custom console for my Vic continues. I have most of the wood (MDF) in place now and it seems to fit nicely into my alotted area. Here is the console just before I put the main brace arms in.
