Saw someone else do this mod and I really liked it, so I did it myslef. The WRX dash space is pretty limited and in order to keep a truly stock look, I decided it was necessary to mount the faceplate of the radio near the screen, but the CB radio I have behind it made it impossible to fit the whole CD player in...so CAT 5 cable and solder it was...

After I mounted the faceplate to the center console I ran the CAT 5 cable to the actual CD player unit below the drivers seat (see pic above). This way I have an actualy knob to twist for volume, keep a real am/fm radio, and can load CD's under my seat if I really wanted to (or someone else brought them along).
Finally the GPS in the bottom right corner of the rear passenger side window:

Also, I didn't want to trim the actual bezel that fits over the screen, mainly because I'm not very good with molding plastic and I didnt want to paint it, so I outlined the screen with electrical tape (I know, the not the most professional approach, but it works and looks way better than jagged or poorly molded/pained plastic)
