Hi Rcracerx coming together nicely. I understand about the wife and a mess, thats why I had to build a shop..lol so she didnt have to see it. I myself havent had much luck with the tv tuner cards usb nor pci. I use a slingbox instead. Cant wait to see the final product. XGC

Looking very very nice. I love nice clean well thought out installs, which yours is shaping up to be!

What are you planning on doing in terms of screen installation?

Nice idea, but not very discrete install. Anyone walking may be able to figure out you got some electronics in there.

I don't agree with cupholders above the CPU though. Just my opinion.

    Hey thanks for the compliments.

For the screen I am still undecided. I wont be molding it into the dash or anything, because that would defeat my purpose of making the unit mobile. I am down to 3 options that I will decide on after I get everything up and running in the truck.

    The 3 options are:

#1 - Mount the screen on top of the console lid using the supplied mounting brackets or some type of goose neck.

#2 - Mount the screen to the same seat bolt that I previously used to mount my laptop on a goose neck of some type.

#3 - This one I just thought of and it is starting to interest me. Look at the picture below and notice where the center vents are on the dash board. Just below those vents is the factory cup holder that SLIDES OUT to expose a cup holder. I am serioulsy considering mounting it to that on a swicel or something and having the ability to slide the entire screen out towards me or a passenger if needed. I havent worked out all the logistics on that one yet but it is shaping up to be my favorite mounting idea yet.

If you have a better idea shoot, I am open for anything except cutting up the dash.

Discreet was not one of my goals in this project because I think the 7 inch screen hanging from the dash will give it away before the floor console does.

Yea the cup holders scared me at first but I am comfortable with the plastic mold they are made of after a close examination. And good news the way the system will be set up if they leak they will only flood my power supply and not the cpu.

    Update:

I found time last night to cut in the 2nd fan and the card reader / usb media device. I think with the 2 fans on opposite sides of the case pulling air through the console and exhausting on the other side I dont see any heat problems.

The card reader was the length of a floppy drive but had alot of wasted space towards the rear so I let my dremmel get to work and I was able to shave nearly 4 inches off of the length. Makes for a much nicer fit.

You can see the final fit on the media card reader and 2nd cooling fan in the picture above.

I had to change the location I was originally intending to mount my relay / distribution block because the 2nd fan is now in that space. I found another suitable location and started the power cable routing.

Thats all for now, UPS says my screen will be delivered today w00t!!

Monster truck show with the kids tomorrow so hopefully I can get some more work done on this project Sunday.

    Cheers

    Nice work!

I'm starting to build something kinda like this for my car...

What is the largest drink you can comfortably put in those cup holders?

This is what the inside of my car looks like... My stock cup holders went where the "pocket" is now...
