Yes but you will need to solder 2 wires to where the power button is now. Basically yes only if you are willing to rip apart the laptop. Then there are DC-DC units that will do it. Also an inverter controller, all around these forums somewhere.

Yes they are called frontends. Most are free, some are not. StreetDeck and Centrafuse are the pay for ones. RoadRunner is free and what I used and is supported well. If you want an out of the box solution, Streetdeck and CF are for you. If you are able to spend a few hours configuring RoadRunner, then download it for free. All are found in these forums Software-->Frontends

A touchscreen will require a data port. Usually USB. You can get a touchscreen overlay for about $50 and a controller for the touchscreen for about $50. But then you will still have that crappy crappy screen. Or for $200, you can get a VGA touchscreen. That means it will run at 640x480 to 1024x768 like normal computer screen. The text wont be fuzzy and the screen will look a hell of a lot better than the thing you have now.

Just get a gps unit for the computer, and then you can sell that horrid thing you have now.

And if you look in the FAQ section you will find many helpful links. Also look in the Newbie section for a "new to CarPC's Look Here" thread. You will find some pretty usefull stuff there.

You could just buy a 7" touchscreen. Those fit nively in a 2DIN slot.

you could start at the store here? or classifieds, e-bay..... there's so many options. just search the internet, and read a few FAQ's here.... Look into the LCD-subforum?
