CAR PC system, touchscreen? + hiber..oution, on ignition? help please =/

Hey guys, basically ive been on nissansilvia.com for ages but this site is just what i need.. anyway il show you my basic setup in a minute :P

what im wondering is, if theres any such way i can ignite my laptop OUT of hibernation when the mains are plugged in.. or at least out of hibernation using the KEYBOARD..?

and this isnt standby were talking about :P. a keyboard and mouse just sits on the passenger seat most of the time hehe..

also, windows at this resolution is just a joke, as you can see below.. is there something i can run to replace windows in the car?

one more question. How could i make my system touch screen? can a touch screen be a screen connected on by svideo / rca? (forgive my ignorence, im new to this stuff) .

thanks for any help in advance

Okay so heres the basic setup..

A japanese GPS-DVD (mitsubishi) Nav system, with rca ntsc video in (thats all we care about)
    A laptop
Sounds (lotsa speakers and an amp)

at the moment my laptop is connected directly to the amp via headjack to rca.. but i want jack to jack when i get my new headunit, itl just be more conveniant incase i want to use the headunit itself.

video is plugged into rca video in from s-video cable into laptop.
    simple. heres the result:

~ itunes visualisation.. pretty much the entire reason i did it.. heh.

~ my setup at the back.. coaxial party with sub pretty much. front are two decent components and tweeters

~ text isnt readable.. screen is only really for navigating through playlists made earlier, and watching movies, maps, etc

Yes but you will need to solder 2 wires to where the power button is now. Basically yes only if you are willing to rip apart the laptop. Then there are DC-DC units that will do it. Also an inverter controller, all around these forums somewhere.

    Touchscreens are your friend!

Yes they are called frontends. Most are free, some are not. StreetDeck and Centrafuse are the pay for ones. RoadRunner is free and what I used and is supported well. If you want an out of the box solution, Streetdeck and CF are for you. If you are able to spend a few hours configuring RoadRunner, then download it for free. All are found in these forums Software-->Frontends

A touchscreen will require a data port. Usually USB. You can get a touchscreen overlay for about $50 and a controller for the touchscreen for about $50. But then you will still have that crappy crappy screen. Or for $200, you can get a VGA touchscreen. That means it will run at 640x480 to 1024x768 like normal computer screen. The text wont be fuzzy and the screen will look a hell of a lot better than the thing you have now.

Just get a gps unit for the computer, and then you can sell that horrid thing you have now.

And if you look in the FAQ section you will find many helpful links. Also look in the Newbie section for a "new to CarPC's Look Here" thread. You will find some pretty usefull stuff there.

thanks for the prompt responce, im that much more educated now.. i want to get a double headunit with touchscreen, it would look great in my car, the positioning is low and angled up, which is different.. however i dont care about dvd or mp3.. all i need is the screen.

does anyone know of anywhere i can get these double units that are just a touchscreen? all that ive found are mega mega dvd mp3 units for around $800.

im not looking to spend that much.

    thanks for any more help

You could just buy a 7" touchscreen. Those fit nively in a 2DIN slot.

you could start at the store here? or classifieds, e-bay..... there's so many options. just search the internet, and read a few FAQ's here.... Look into the LCD-subforum?
