New instance each time launched

Since there's a subforum now, it didn't seem right to just keep adding on to the long thread about 2.999x. I've embedded it into RR and it comes up fine. But when I exit gps and come back in, I initially see the already opened iG, but then another one opens on top of it, slightly smaller. If I exit RR, there are multiple SB's on the taskbar. Sorry if this has been answered, but that's a lot of posts to read through and the solution I found didn't work. :o

In config, I have GPS Window Name = SBGPS
My skinbedder.ini looks like this:

First, why did you add the [MainWindow] section. That doesn't do anything :).

What do you mean by "exit GPS"? I'm not sure how RR works. It sounds like RR is not closing SKINbedder, but it is re-running it everytime you switch to GPS. Is it supposed to exit it? I'm not sure if the problem is that RR is trying to close Sb and it can't, or if RR is not trying to close Sb but still re-running it every time you switch back. If it is the second case, then that is a bug with RR.

CF will run an embedded app the first time you switch to its screen. It will not run it again unless you specifically switch to "full-screen" mode, and click CF's close button on its top border, and then switch to its screen again later. When you do this, CF does properly close Sb.

Sb is designed to be able to run multiple instances so that it can embed multiple different programs in its different instances at the same time (by passing it a command-line parameter specifying the name of the app to embed). I do not want to make it a single instance only app. I would think RR would work with single instance only apps yes/no?

Can you try embedding notepad in RR, typing some text in to it, switching away from notepad, and the switching back to it. If you do that, is your text still there?

Well, it's finally running! The problem is that there's so much information out on this forum about old versions that it's difficult to figure out what NOT to do. We REALLY need that guide on how to use the CURRENT version. I had followed advice on using [MainWindow] and WindowTitle= and (since rrconfig is set to "sbgps") evidently I should have been using [Mainform] and Caption= because this works in the iguidance.ini file:

I have the gps screen shrunken to allow for my RR buttons on the left edge. But this now brings up the question, "what if I change RR skins"? The form won't be in the right place.

Hi...I am having a similar issue with nRoute and tried the solution as above....it worked. When I exit RR I can see SB still on the task bar. When I enter RR again and enter GPS, there will be another SB on the task bar. How do I fix this.

It really sounds like the problem is that Sb is not being properly embedded in RR.

It may look like the [MainForm] properties worked, but really that just placed the Sb window in the exact location that it would automatically be embedded to if RR had embedded it. You should never need to set the initial width/height/left/top of the form except for when creating a skin with advanced anchor techniques or for making it look clean if when launching you see it open for a split-second before your front-end embeds it. Once Sb is embedded, your front-end resizes Sb overwriting the [MainForm] settings.

If your caption is "sbgps" as the [MainForm] above defines, then you must make sure "gpsname=sbgps" in your RR.ini (I think, but I still don't claim to know much about RR).

If that is not the problem, then I don't get it... I would expect iGuidance.exe to have the same problem without Sb since it too allows multiple instances.

Yes in RR.ini "gpsname=sbgps".... When I close RR, SB is still on the task bar. Is the something wrong with RR. It should close SB when exit right or I did not embed SB correctly. I did not set width/height/left/top, only the name.

Try launching it as an external app by creating folder in your RR LAUNCH folder instead of using it as the RR gps app.

Hi...have did as you told. I created a folder in RR Launch and launch SB with nRoute embedded thru apps. When I exit the same thing happens, SB is still on the taskbar. If I click on SB in taskbar nothing appears....any ideas

I don't know if this had been beaten to death yet, but in RR, even without SB, when exiting the iG nav screen by pressing the "X" button on the skin, the screen simply exits to the main menu WITHOUT closing the iG application so that when you activate the GPS function again, another instance of iG is opened on top of that. As for SB, RR is doing the same thing, except that it does not close out SB, and will open up another instance instead.

so the issue is with RR and not SB....I'll try looking for ans in the RR section
