Why is it that there are no mainstream frontends that use windows media player? I've only seen one and it wasn't released (might have been dropped )

Personally i like the features in WMP compared to Winamp, I'd like to have it in a frontend because it will organize your music automatically no matter what folder it's in and update (titles and what-not) off the web.

I guess but don't take my word for it that WMP is a lot heavier to function in a frontend. Because we are not all using high end computers in our car we would like to keep our program light.

Maybe we also use Winamp because it is a lot easier to communicate with it (but this I do not know for sure). I guess controlling winamp and getting information from it is a lot easier then using microsofts one. Also the question is what version of WMP are we going to use.

Also not everyone has internet in his/her car so maybe it is just not interesting to update song titles and stuff over the web.

    *** UPDATE (6-11-2007) ***
As for the frontend. The mainmenu is finally working. Still have to do some bug fixing and testing but as for the skinnable part it runs fine. It is now also able to grap information from the framework such as current artist, song, speed, satelites, etc, etc. As for the memory usage (could be interesting) it's 7.5 mb so that isn't much yet compaired to roadrunners 18 mb. Bare in mind that the framework has already loaded sound stuff, video stuff, plugin managers and gps.

Will try to build a simple skin tomorrow and make some screenshots. Just to show how it works. Then I will start building the music plugin.

I guess as soon as it is finished . I will release the frontend as soon as the video / music player is programmed and the library manager is in place. I guess maybe it is time to explain what the library manager is for.

With the library manager it is possible to import your music into your carpc. I myself have a usbport in my center console. As soon as I plug a usbstick with new music into this port I can tell my Frontend to update my musiclibrary. Then it will depending on my choice or config download the music to my carpc harddrive. This way I can easily import Playlists / Images / Music / Video (although this is gone be a bit of a problem cause you must fit a video file on your usbstick). (BTW works the same way with cd's and dvd's).

As we all know some mp3's have information stored in them (ID3 Tags). When the library is updated say from a usbstick it will try to read ID3 Tags. When this doesn't work it will try to split the filename on the -. When 2 parts come out they will most likely be the artist and the title. When none of them work the filename is used as the file's name.

When you select export library it will export the library file (contains the references to the files and artist / track / etc info) and write it to a destination (usb stick). Then on a program you can install on your main pc at home you can change track titles and genre's etc. But also create new playlists. (for people that don't like spending hours in there cars). Then just import the library on you carpc and voila your library is updated.

So hope i explained what my library is gone do just giving you some more insight.

    With kind regards,
