    Remote Computer Control

I guess what I need is someone to give me a push in the right direction here.
I have one computer that is going to host my MP3/OGG files and send sound out to the amp. I want to use another PC or PDA to control the server. My idea is to use an Ipaq with an 802.11b card and have a wireless remote with a REALLY long range. I figure the best way would just be to use a web page since HTML is pretty universal. My question is how to work the backend. I have never coded anything on the backend side so this is all new to me. I am guessing I should proubly use a cgi written in perl or something along those lines. I have no problems learning a language to help me do this. It just gives me one more reason to try and learn something new. Let me know what you think since I know alot of you are experts on this type of thing.

    Thanks for your help,
    Josh Gesler

If an Infra red remote would do it for you - check out winlirc - with some basic soldering knowledge you could buid a receiver for ~5$- the rest is free - just costs some time to configure
I have it on all my computers - and so i can lay back in my bed and listen to mp3's etc or command bsplayer to watch movies - the range of the receiver i build is very high - about 15m .

If memory serves, theres a few pieces of software that do this. I can't think of any of them, but a few of them tie into winamp, running a webpage front end to control the player. you might search the board, or search the plugins for winamp2.

I will look for that plugin. I reason I wasn't going to use VNC is that I would like to run it from a pda. I don't know if it would run on MS Pocket PC, but if it did you would have to scrool the sreen around alot.

I think the new version on VNC has scaling now, but that would just make things real tiny.

ok, now I have a plugin for winamp called Snowcrash that "seems" to work. I can get it to work great on the local machine, but I am having trouble getting it to work from a remote machine. Has anyone had any experience with this plugin?
