    Pros and Cons to Designing a Front End using Flash?

    I am thinking of constructing a front end for my Carputer using Flash...any Pros and Cons that you guys can forsee? It will be a self contained .exe for mp3's and just about anyting else I want it to do.

    Instead of building it from scratch, you might want to look into the existing programs. I am working on a program right now (info in this thread) which lets you drop in a new flash front end, while my backend handles all the other stuff.

    I think a few of the other programs let you do similar things.

    I've had my flash frontend running for about about 6 months without problem.

    Pros? Completely customizable. Looks good.

    No cons so far.

    I would say cons everything moves a little slower or appears to move slower.

    Moves slower than a static interface?!?

    My interface is very quick, and it's just running on a PII-266. As long as you don't make any huge sweeping animations, it can be very slick.

    Take it from someone who's been using a flash interface for the past 6 months. It's worth the time put in, and the wow factor is much higher.

    I work for Bose and we actually use flash for our touchscreen monitors to control our demonstration clips. It seems to work very well but occasionally acts up with our switching equipment, but then again its interfacing with a $50,000 highly complex system and not just simply playing / sorting tracks! If i knew flash I would try this out, maybe i'll still learn. I gotta say though, the touchscreen flash is what got me interested in this whole project! Drop by your local Bose showcase store and they should have one of the displays handy ( i think, my store up here in Michigan at the Somerset Collection is unique to the corporation)
