    Here's a start...
You can specify the program to run when an audio cd is inserted by changing the following registry key:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AudioCD\Shell\Play\Command]
    Got this from here: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/859/
Have it run a batch file or some custom program that will detect if the cd has been ripped yet. (possibly use CDDB for song title lookups)
I'll bet there are command-line rippers out there... (I know there are many command line encoders!)

right now i use mmjb (dont laugh) and have it look at my local ccdb (downloaded from freedb) when im on the road and ripping (like at a friends house). but i want to be able to just pop the cd in and have it rip away as im getting rid of my tft and wont be able to see to start the process. thanks for the info patO, i will look into the commandline encoders. any more ideas?

I'll have to try that for ripping CD's. It looks a lot easier then hacking the old 3-watt cell phone I have installed in my car to get to the CDDB. Now all I need is a command line ripper/encoder that works like audiocat....
