There is already one called "computrace". Basically "lojack" for PCs. Here is the link.
I'm thinking of putting together a locating service and software that can be attached to any computer. Good for stolen laptops, and of course locating your stolen car, or tracking someone. Of course you will need a wireless internet connection. Locating would be taken care by ways of GPS and or ip address. Through the website you would maybe see one of or all three -- closest address/map location/gps location -- and also see ip address, and average speed along with max speed. Most likely Charge would be $20 to $40 a year. Before I begin this, I wanted to know of general interest. Or is something out there like this already and I'm just reinventing the wheel and wasting my time? I'm also doing this because I'm thinking of putting this in the current software I'm developing.
If there is a general interest I will start a little collection fund raiser only for the site set up (60 or so people donate a couple dollars)...not trying to hear 100 people say yes yes, then I go and spend $120 or so on a domain and host, and no one antes up the $20 to $40 for what they were initially excited about.
Only 3 votes and one post with 240 views, wow.
@mpacesaints, yeah I know about those companies, and came across two others. I'm just trying to check if there is actually a "real" market for it because I really haven't heard anyone speak of these services.
