    Reccomendations....

Greetings all! My project is nearing the 50% completion point! I have built the PC and now looking to configure the interface. I have not purchased the LCD Screen yet but am certinatly going to go with a 6-10" lcd touchscreen. My question to this forum is this: What software or skins do you reccomend for controlling just mp3's (potentially dvds in the future, but not the initial plan) I have looked at Cobra but it requires a remote for many of the functions. Here are the PC specs if they matter!

    Celeron 400
    ATI All in wonder 128
    256mb EDO

I can't imagine you'd need more info than that! Thanks alot in advance ladies and germs!

Go ahead and get the remote for WHATEVER set you use. In my experience it will save you tons of headache. The great thing about it is, with a keypad, its quite constrictive and has to stay pretty much in the same spot. With a remote, you can shove it in a cubby hole or something. I would suggest at least looking at http://www.evation.com for their irman. Costs about $35 if memory serves right but it can use just about any remote you can toss at it.

i agree.. remote is the way to go. My experience with a touch screen is they are bad while driving. You are always looking down to make a song change and such. With a remote you can pretty much do it without taking your eyes off the road.

Media Engine is touchscreen / keyboard / remote compatible. Give it a shot. Its free, and the source code is available as well.

Plus I built it, which makes it rule
    Get MediaEngine !!!

I looked at it earlier, what sucks is without an ir man its hard to test, guess i'll have to break down and get one! What kind of remotes do you suggest? Being that what you have labelled on them will be different than their functions, and what are the essential functions to map on to the remote?

What would make it hard to test? You just program your keys you want, and then its ready to go.

Essential Functions to map out on keyboard or remote...

    Up Down Left Right
    Enter
    Quit
    Volume Up/Down
    Mute
Switch Playlist While Music Playing (SWMP)

    (remote only) -> Start Visualizations
    Get MediaEngine !!!

I think what he meant is that since he doesnt have a buddy with one laying around or theres not one at the local office max, he cant just play around with it first and see if he likes it. So therefore he has to go ahead and breakdown to buy it. Then once he gets it he can test it all he wants.

Stavros, also once you get it, if you dont like it for your car setup, you can use it to control your home pc. You can use it to switch music like you would in your car, but also can be used with many dvd software packages and plus you can use girder software to use it to control ALMOST ANYTHING your lil heart desires.

Thanks, i'm gonna order it this payday. I've almost decided on Media Engine, i like the interface and its pretty much what i'm looking for. I guess touchscreen capability isn't what i really need, but I'll live. Maybe once i get it going I'll try and develop my own front end especially for touchscreeners! Thanks for all the help.
