RockCar Alpha .25 - New Default Skin, Album Art

    Updates:
This is an alpha version 0.0.0.25.
Album art added to the media selection.
Flash can now be used as a graphic element in a skin.
New default skin that shows more of the features of RockCar. (see screens)
    Error logging added.
GPS functions added to the core engine. (change the the GpsPort in the configuration to the correct port ex: COM4)

Download the setup files from the attached zip in post #3.
Source code for the plugins is attached.

    Notes:
The performance of loading the media library takes about 10 seconds for 190 albums and tracks on my 1.3 Ghz machine. I'm working on a way to reduce the time it takes to load the library this will require changes to the core engine.

I'm also working on a better solution to the repaint of the screen. Not much of an impact, but there are changes that would make the process better.

    Requirements:
    • Windows XP or Vista 32bit
    • Windows Media Player (RockCar uses your WMP library)
    • .NET 2.0 Runtime (free from Microsoft)

    Features:
    • Uses WMP for the media library and album art. Both audio and video.
    • Install takes about 20 seconds.
    • Multi-language capable interface.
    • Skinable interface with themes so it is possible to change colors, etc without changing the whole skin.
    • Plugable interface so it is possible to create extended features.
    • External controls plugin interface that allows external controllers like joysticks and control knobs to interface with RockCar.
    • Flexible core engine that can be leveraged in plugins.
    • Built in C#

    Plugins Included:
    Head - Main control surface.
Media Selector - Selects media from the WMP library.
IE Browser - Internet Explorer web browser.
MapPoint - MapPoint interface with simple GPS tracking (MapPoint needs to be installed of course).
Info - Information screen about the system and current media.

English, German, Spanish, French, Russian and Japanese Translations Available
I used Babel Fish for the translations, so I apologize if any translations are incorrect. PM me if you would like to help out with translations. Translations are in the GlobalTranslations.xml file.

Change the translation to the language you want by editing the GlobalOptions.xml file and changing the "Culture" to:

Looking good so far. A marked improvement from the previous version. :-)

Plug-in architecture is cool. I'll take a closer look at the GPS plugin.

I like the idea of having multiple language interfaces

You need more contrast for the text on the buttons.

The gray is going to blend into the butotn in daytime.

Black text on the silver/grey butotns would work great.

Ditto night but opposite (ie white text black button).

Buttons might be a little small also.

    Not to shabby otherwise........

The skin.xml file has themes in it that make it easy to change the color and fonts used in the skin. This makes it possible to alter the look of a skin without creating a whole new one. You can add a new theme, about 10 lines of XML, or change an existing one.

I'm focusing primarily on the core application. I'm more of a developer type. I'm hoping someone with some better graphic arts skills can create a slick looking skin.

How does the application run for you?
