Can you post a link, or some specs of the unit you are talking about... maybe then we can help more.
Hi there, first post here. Done plenty of searching but still non the wiser.
I'm considering buying a double din CE powered head unit from the East. It does everything i need it to do, ie run tomtom and listen to the radio and mp3's.
Now, the main difference on the items on fleebay is seems to be the front end. SOme of them are offensivly ugly. You must be able to change them from one to the other - they are running Samasung 400mhz processors - presumeably ARM.
Does anyone know of the name of any of these front ends for CE so i can do a search on them, or any other info or experience using these units.
Thanks, Rick.

Hi,
this is the sort of thing:

Are there any front ends for WinCE, other than those that are included with (and inseparable from) devices like these?
I suspect the answer is no, but I would love to be wrong about that.
I know this has not been updated in a while but has anyone heard about upgrading the front end? also I can't picture these having all that great sound output?
and most of them say they can control an ipod now

for that price i could buy a used brand name version.
Writing programs for windows CE isn't entirely dissimilar to a NT based Windows, the base level API is about the same, and there's even a compact .net framework for it. In THEORY it'd be fairly easy. In practice is another matter, but I've written small apps for my GPS which runs windows CE and they run perfectly fine, never played around with getting the compact .net framework on it. I'd say anyone with experiance with CE should give it a shot, if I had money to spare I would.
i hope wince 5.0 will allow .net framework 3.5. Perhaps there wont be much difference between XP or win ce as long as it supports .net Framework.
I understand that there will be some deviations because of the nature of OS. But i hope that can be handled with bit care
BTW any one knows how these china brand all in one DVD using the touch screen and lcd.
Any supported mother board can be used to reuse the existing panel for a pc.
I am looking for an answer but couldnt find exactly.
I´m looking for the same thing...
I bought 1 of these units n the worst thing about them is the interface is so damn ugly to the point that i dont wana use it and also the system is slow switching modes ex. from GPS to USB or Radio to TV its slow but once you in one of the modes it moves at a decent speed like switching songs is very fast. but im also wondering if it uses Win CE all around. from my conclusion of messing around with the unit I think it has 2 O/S one using the CE operating system and the other running an Chinese O/S from a microprocessor thats all i can think of how they where able to make this unit function. seems like the Chinese O/S runs the whole show cause when i use the remote while in GPS mode it doesn't do ne thing but control the volume and an ugly HUD comes up showing the volume level thats overlayed on the GPS screen. I was able 2 do some exploring in the CE area with file explorer and I dont see much on the side besides the SD card for the GPS maps. I am going 2 try 2 get the task bar running 2 do some more tests and see if there is any thing hiding like an extra partition running the other O/S. Im almost tempted to open the sucker up n poking around a bit. if any one has ne ideas ill b sure 2 perform them on the unit. its still under warranty lol.![]()
