    Lightbulb mp3Organizer - New mp3 Library/Album Art Organizer

Hi everyone, I've been a member of mp3car forums for a few years now but have never really done much posting. So a few days ago I was organizing some mp3s and realized that I could make a program that would easily put them in the correct location (...\artist\album\filename.mp3). So I did that pretty easily. The next problem was Album Art, I've used other applications that can make it pretty difficult. So I added in support to download album art and save it right into the ..\artist\album\AlbumArtName.jpg format.

    Release Notes:
    10/28
--Fixed: Directory structure ..\Artist\Album\thenameofthemp3.mp3 is now supported
--Added ability to just search for Album Art
--Added ability to choose whether to move or copy files

It's pretty straightforward to use, right now there is one limitation which I'll get to in a minute.
    To use it,
    1. Extract the zip file
    2. Run mp3Organizer.exe
    3. Select Source and Destination (only need dest. if organizing)
    4. Select whether or not you want to find album art
    5. Select whether or not you want a custom name for all album art ex.(folder.jpg)
    6. Click Start
    * "Find Album Art" - It takes about 10-15 seconds for the first album art to load, once the pictures show up, just single left-click on the one you like or click skip album and the next album art will load. It looks for folders containing mp3s but no jpgs, then when it finds one, it will grab the artist/album info.If you skip an album, it will create a text file in the directory listing all of the albums skipped so that you can manually get the album art. The file is located in the destination if moving, otherwise its in the source folder.

    * "Re/Organize mp3 Collection" You will need to select a destination, and select whether you want it to move the mp3 files or just copy them into the destination folder. Allowing you to test it by copying all the mp3 files into a new folder and organizing them. Also an error log file is created in the source folder if any files already exist and are attempted to be moved copied.

The limitation is that if you are organizing your mp3s, all of the mp3 files must have an Artist and an Album Tag, if they don't have both they'll just be ignored. To fix this I recommend a program called mp3Tag it is a great program for tagging your mp3 files.

Here is a couple of screen shots of it in action

And one last note, This software is in beta, I take no responsibility for your mp3 files, if they are deleted or in anyway damaged, you have been warned. With that being said I've tested it on my machine and have had no problems whatsoever with any mp3s.

If you have any suggestions, comments, questions feel free to send me a message or post here.

Update #1 I just uploaded a new version, with a couple small fixes.

Update #2 Just found out it won't run without .NET framework 3.5. So I recompiled and it should run with .NET Framework 2.0 heres a link for it in case you don't have it .NET Framework 2.0

Update #3 I did a major update, mp3Organizer now has the ability to just find album art in existing folders with or without re/organizing the mp3s

    hey rambo,

are you still working on this program? It looks pretty nice. I am using fixtunes right now, but I dont know if I like it. It seems to be working fine except that its going really slow and it is downloading album art that is totally not right for some albums. I have a large database(11,000 songs) so this might be why it is going slow. One problem I have is that in order to get the album art to show up in RR, I have to put a .jpg of it in each folder. That is going to take FOREVER doing it manually. Can your program do this?

Yea thats exactly what its for, provided your tags are right, it will let you choose from around 10-15 images that you want for your album art. You just single click on each image you like and it saves it as AlbumName.jpg into the appropriate folder. If none of the images are right, you just click "Skip Album" and it will append the artist/album name
to a text file so that you can manually find the art for that particular album.

As of right now though, you need to dump all of the .mp3 files into one folder, then it will automatically create the corresponding artist folder, then inside that, the album folder and move the mp3s into the appropriate folder.

I could build in different functionality if there is a demand for it, such as find album art for folders without album art, or maybe even re-arrange music in place(no need to dump all files into one folder).

    Rambo,
I think that adding the functionality to not rearrange music would be huge. I spent weeks getting my stuff all organized into folders, and I don't want to risk getting it messed up.

I really like the text file telling you which ones were skipped: cool!

Alright well I'll see what I can do, it shouldn't take too much work. I'll update my first post when I get it done.

    Hey guys,

Media Monkey has a script that someone made that will automatically pull whatever image you have in the ID3 tag and save it as a .jpg in the corresponding folder that the mp3 is in. I ran it and it seems to have worked well. I'm at work so I dont have the location of the script but a quick google should find it. The only downside is that I will still have to go and put a generic album artwork jpg in the Root folder of each artist since there obviously isn't an mp3 there... Hope this helps!

What happens if you use the MP3ART.dll and also have the folder.jpg in each folder? Will the MP3art still grab the embedded image in the mp3 if there is no folder.jpg in the directory?

    rambo,

I tried it, and it didn't like something.
Attached is the error that I got.

I click skip and it just freezes up on me.

    Any ideas?

Oh, and how does this program work? Via ID3 tags, or file/folder names?
Just want to make sure I will be able to use it correctly on my mp3 storage machine.

    Thanks

what version of .net do you have installed? You might want to try 3.5. It uses ID3 tags to get the artist album info
