    GPS subtitle recorder - CarPCSub

    CarPCSub Version 0.1 [email protected]

CarPCSub is a small command line utility I have written that functions as a GPS to subtitle recorder. This application is written in Perl and the source is available. The .exe file included is compiled to run on a Win32 OS. This utility records GPS NMEA data via a communications port to a video subtitle file. This application can write SubRip .srt or Advanced Sub Station Alpha .*** files. This script is intended to be ran along side video recording software in a CarPC (Carputer) with the intent to later play back or encode (overlay) the GPS position, time, date, speed, etc. with the video. This script could be ported to Linux using Device::SerialPort. This application will not work with the XPort communications port sharing application. CarPCSub Version 0.1 is released under the open source GPL license. Please share this application. If you find this utility use full please send me a message and let me know.

    Interesting idea...But I'm a little confused...
How do you synchronize the recorded video and the GPS subtitle?...
Is there a recording application that can start the video recording and the script at the same time?

    GPS to Subtitles CarPCSub

    DigitalVampire,

At this time, I launch both the CarPCSub recorder and the video capture VLC VideoLAN Media Player from .BAT batch files. It would not be hard at all to issue a system() or an exec() command to launch the video player when the CarPCSub recorder starts. I will have to add this feature! In theory, we could launch any video recording software that would accept input from the command line (e.g. VLC).

    Thank you very much,
