    New cobra...(carplayer?)

Ok, as far as I understand cobra has gone commercial...which has made a lot of people unhappy, including myself. So I journed to their website www.carplayer.com and the software looks pretty solid. Is it worth the 80 dollars tho? Has anyone purchased the software? And finally, it has built in gps software, but the site doesn't give much detail as to whether or not its any good. Anybody have any info?? Thanks...

I don't know much about Cobra, but there are more than 2 excellent open source software packages in development right now. Thos guys have really put in a lot of work, and I would venture to say that they are at least as good as Cobra - if not better. Besides, they're open source and we need to support the cause Plus you can customize it the way you want it.

For $80 you could buy yourself Street Atlas or CoPilot (or some other GPS program) and have change left over.

Ahh someone correct me if I'm wrong here...
    No Carputer YET.

Hmmmn. No F'n way. Sure the remote is kind of neat but $80!! The only part that looked cool to me was the gps which is not built in (what gps soft is that? sure looks slick). I find myself rather disappointed. I played with the original cobra a few years ago but did not like a picture of some dude's stang on an lcd in my civic and it was rather buggy.

Thanks but no thanks. I'd pay some $$ for a nice piece of software that does everything I want the way I want, but that is rather unrealistic unless i design it myself as everyone here seems to have similiar but different needs and preferences. I have not seen any commercial software that I really liked (4am is the closest, it's free, but looks like crap on my 6.4" screen)

I'll stick with media engine and the such.

I agree, I thought the gps function was really nice. I thought it was nice that they offer technical support for a year. I am tired of buggy software and I thought this might be the answer. But I am open to try new things. Thanks for the responses guys

Out of curiousity I contacted carplayer and after almost 2months (for real) I recieved the response that the GPS Ooption was not yet avail but woul dbe soon and was only included as part of the system which was like 800 bucks, you could not get just the 80$ software and add gps for the extra 100-220 bucks it might cost. Nope you must buy the whole kit and caboodle

Us ethe other FREE options out there they work just as well and if the time it took to reply to my sales inquiry (which are noramally the fastest from any company) is any idea of the support you may get than 1 year support may be just enough time to get two ro three questions answered
