That may be the culprit for the windows showing up, but you DO have a virus/trojan.

Look at the link and as was pointed out that address is NOT a genuine address. And since it is your homepage, you have been infected. Could have happened and you not have known since you still dont realize it is malicious so it could have been there from the start.

What tools did you use to scan the PC? Were you booted into your full OS when you did it?

    Chances are 2k1Toaster right too

...and you still do have a virus/trojan/malware that altered your browser's homepage.

If nothing else works, I would recommend re-installing everything from the OS up, since some of these malware get pretty deeply embedded in the OS. Athough that's your call, I don't know how practical that would be for you!

Well, I ran malwarebytes quick scan and nothing came up. I run a deep scan I my drive home tonight. If nothing shows up, I'll try something else.

Another thing to save u from re-formatting...

If you have another PC with a strong AV program (I would recommend McAfee, it weeds out stuff literally all other AVs have missed), you might want to remove the hard drive form this PC and hook it up to an external casing or internally and then scan it for unwanted stuff.

Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers!

That is what I was planning for the next step. Although I don't have McAfee. I was going to try nortons. I will let you know what comes of it.

    hold yer horses!

    Dude!

Guess what? There may not be a virus/trojan/malware on ur pc after all!

I just had a thought and took a stroll down to whois.com and popped in microsft.com (without the "o") and guess who showed up as the owner of the domain!

It wouldn't hurt to run a scan tho, just to be on the safe side... But I wouldn't go out on a limb for that if the above is actually the case.

As an afterthought, while considerin scanning yer hard disk, since you don't have McAfee, check around with any of ur friends/acquaintances/colleagues who do have it and if they'd mind you dropping by and scanning ur HDD. Then simply pop it into an external USB case and take it over.

I think Kaspersky is also pretty aggressive tool and should weed out stuff, if any. Just improving ur options m8...

    Say what happens k?...

    Old Malware?

It sounds like some malware changed the homepage.

It's possible that the malware was removed at some point, but the change to the homepage went unnoticed.

Also, QC, really good call on the keyboard.

    ClockWork, u could be right...

About the keyboard, I don't want to sound cheesy, but this was purely through experience with the not-so-experienced noobs in my office (rizaydog no offence to u, referring to the peeps in my office) who used to come to me tearing their hair out yellin "my PC's goin nuts!" after leaving a stapler, book or something heavy one of their keyboards (laptop + external keyboard= double the trouble! lol!)

Well, I gotta tell ya that if it wasn't for qc4000, I would be getting those pop ups until the batteries on the keyboard went dead. I only use the stupid thing once a month if that. Except, of course, when stupid things like this come up.

Its been several blissful days since my last pop up. However, I will install av software, run a scan, and remove the av.

I'll update after I run the scan.
