You should download the BU353 drivers from USGlobalSat only. These are actually listed as XP/Vista drivers too. I had issues with the drivers from Prolific. It would take forever to get a lock on XP, but as soon as I downloaded the drivers from USGlobalSat, who makes the BU353, it went back to almost instant GPS connections. I am pretty sure that Globalsat does some tweaks to the prolific drivers.

I actually had downloaded the prolific drivers following the link on the XPort website to Prolific.

    Just my 2 cents.

Guess I'll remove that link. You did download the GPS drivers, right? I've had non-GPS peripherals (such as a VISCA over Cat5e) that worked better with their GPS drivers. It could be that Prolific has made different revisions to the chips and the manufacturers distribute the right one for that revision.

Well I just followed your Prolific driver link and the only GPS specific driver said it was for GPS device being found as a MS Serial Ballpoint. So no I didn't use the GPS driver I used the standard driver. Just passing on the info.

I'm having issues with my Garmin GPS 18 on windows 7. It's a complex setup, but I'm about to give up and try something else, then I see this thread. I thought BU353 was the standard that it would work through hibernation on windows 7, no issues. WHY does it need a USB to serial driver?? Garmin GPS do not need that with nroute.

In my experience with HD Radio, usb to serial is a hit or miss specially with Vista, now Win7. I only had luck with FTDI drivers. Prolific? Never heard about, doesn't seem to work.

So guess I'll keep my Garmin (the drivers for win7 suck big time). I used GPSGate to multiply serial ports, but now I need Xport to turn off Garmin before hibernation. Does that feature work in Windows 7?

I can use both Xport and GPSgate together, apparently, so I want GPSGate to translate Garmin to NMEA, then Xport to create the ports AND turn off Garmin driver.

THe question is, does Xport hibernation feature work with Windows 7? On device driver I can't see any option to disable driver in the Garmin GPS entry (and many other entries, unlike Vista/XP).

I used the USGlobalSat Vista/7 drivers for my BU-353 and can't get it to fail on hibernate/resume yet. XPort shows it's already reading when the desktop appears. The driver list looks the same too. It shows "Prolific USB-To-Serial Comm Port (Ser2pl)" but the control isn't working, so no more device control. There was devcon scripting thing on the forums, so that could be an alternative. I don't know how to use devcon, so search.

Humm, the BU353 is selling for 37.00 free shipping at Amazon. It's tempting, but I just found about a bunch of guys with win7 issues at Centrafuse forum...I have to think about it.

Thanks, I know about the devcon - hope it works with win7 -, just it would be easier with Xport.
