Bluetooth OBDII setup

I read that the bluetooth ODBII products install a virtual serial port so that any software can run it... however the supplier's software on a burnt cd was all corrupt and as such i have none of the software or drivers that come with it... does anyone know how to obtain these drivers required to make it work with centrafuse :S

They use the bluetooth serial protocol. Typically there'll be [almost] no setup involved, since your OS's built in bluetooth stack already explicitly understands it.

I'd go with a "suck it and see" approach - just see if you can set up a connection through your OS.

Further details depend on what OS you're already using.

windows is being annoying and just not recognizing my usb stick :P dunno whats going on there but i suspect it may have something to do with the bluetooth drivers that centrafuse installed :S until i can get a good copy of that cd from the supplier i think i may be out of luck... its just a generic usb mini... same as everyone Ive ever seen on the net

yeah ok well got the com port thing sorted... windows bluetooth does it automatically so pretty much invalid question... still having trouble with bluetooth in my pc but thats for a different forum so i borrowed my partners computer... :S a new issue has arrised... I cant seem to make it work with any software, have tried obd-diag which says avg diag not detected when i try to connect and also dash command dosnt find it either :S which worried me... Is there a certain type of OBD-II device i need to use or are they all the same, The device itself is blue with nothing writen on it so I assume its all generic, the bluetooth device is called CAN OBD or sumthing and yeah thats all I got... any help making the software recognise it... I want to use it in centrafuse eventually and have some sorta graphical software also installed for advanced loggings... Yeah... thanks in advance

also it is a very compact device that can fit in the palm of my hand... no extra serial attachments or anything like some devices i have seen if that makes a differance?

What devices are you actually trying to use, here? What happens when you set it up in windows? Does the OBDII device appear as a serialport on your machine? It'll probably be COM6 or something like that - it's in your bluetooth control panel. Point your OBDII software at that.

I don't use windows personally, but everything here is in the realm of "simple stuff that windows does out of the box".

To check if it's working and not centrafuse or something, open putty, connect it to the COM port described in your bluetooth setup thingy [as a serial terminal], then hit enter a couple times and type "AT Z" then hit enter, to see what happens. If you get a bunch of init stuff, a device description, and a > prompt, then you know the device is working.
