    Reprogramming A Headunit (completly)

    Hi. I'm new here

    I was wondering, is it possible to completly reprogram a head unit, like give it something along the lines of a new operating system?

    I just got the XO-Vision XO1915BT And it's not a bad head unit, it just has a horrible operating system. Can I make my own/ use one someone else made on this head unit?

    and if so... How could I go about that?

    Welcome to the forums. Just so you know, this forum is about putting computers in cars, not about headunits. That being said, the short answer to your question is no.

    You might be able to pull the headunit apart, solder on a JTAG interface to whatever controller chip they have inside, write a new program for it and flash it... but that's extremely unlikely. I'm willing to bet most companies lock the chips before they ship them. That's assuming you know what kind of interface the chip has to the rest of the radio, which there is no way of knowing. Heck, even theoretically it's a nightmare. Just go for a carpc, you can put whatever OS on it you want

    Well, thats very interesting... I could do the computer part quite easily (Been building computers since grade 9 and have parts laying around everywhere)... But I guess controlling it is where it rapes me... Idk... I've been thinking about it

    Control it via touchscreen. Done!

    Add a Griffin Powermate or Spacenavigator or 3D connexion for control, map movements to keys, edit the skin table and you've got tactile controls.
