HMMMM, I guess its Kev's way of getting people into kind of experimenting with other stuff. Like he said before, alot of us are integrators, and I have no clue on programming. As far as switching away from Windows, the reason i haven't done so is because I know Windows inside out. The one time I tried Linux, it was very easy with very common sense stuff, but i actually missed the complication that Windows has. Also alot of the devices that i use in my specific install are Windows based. My install has already been set back with compatibility issues and now I am going to make my setup a 7 PC install. I cant imagine I will get good results like I do with Windows. As far as front ends, everyone knows I am a HARDCORE CF user. My only reason for doing so is because Flux listened to what i wanted, put it into the software, end of story. Also alot of the RR plug in creators have started to also adapt their plug ins for CF, giving it a bigger library and feature list. I tried RR, and it was just to much work. You have to tweak this, configure this XML, deal with nagware if you don't update, and the list goes on. I don't want to say I'm stupid, but I don't have the knowledge to fiddle with a FE to get it the way I like. I just change a few options in CF and I'm done. Also I am with CF because no other FE has the dual screen support with not only video but also multi sound card. This is a feature my setup needed since i am running 8 screens in an SUV. Sometimes I don't want to hear them watching a DVD. I have to shuffle kids around sometimes and unfortunately I have no patience for things like Barney, Dora the Explorer, and anything else annoying. I went to a friends house and literally almost smashed the remote because his kids kept changing back to Dora the explorer, which drives me insane. So imagine having to go through that in a moving confined space!?!?!?!?! When I see a FE that can top the feature list of CF and be easy to configure and use, I will gladly switch to that FE.

That is exactly one of the reasons. Well actually no, I don't have kids because I have genetic issues with my head (which is why I am so temper mental) and major heart issues, all of which any kids I have will get. , thats another story though. I don't actually mind kids, dogs are much worse, or at least mine are (probably from spoiling them rotten), its just that these shows to me do not have that much educational value. They do irritating things, with retarded sounds. All the shows from the past, had value, and you actually learned something from it.

On the Linux topic..... I do remember that for Linux you had to remember alot of typed commands. I didn't mind that, but there also wasn't that much i had to remember. I was using a internet gateway software to control who could get on the internet at my job. Unfortunately it wasn't feature rich and I eventually went to a Windows based system that allowed me to tailor all login users and even setup a paypal based billing system. Now from what Enforcer is saying, it sounds like I would have to remember a book load of commands.

    Visiting a Zoo.

    Why?

Because they live at opposite ends of the planet, and the only possible place you'll see them together (which is also unlikely as they will normally be if different sections) is a Zoo (or other type of animal park) or possible a book.

Or maybe on a restaurant menu.

Hmm, grilled penguin drizzled over a polar bear steak.

You obviously haven't booted moblin on a netbook. I'm talking about something that Linux can do that window can't. And booting really fast in combination with the other aforementioned attributes is one of the things I can get Linux to do, that you can't get windows to do. Period.

Also "every country in the world" is a pointless comment, since you can do that in windows too using the exact same software you do in linux if you so wish.
It's the combination of all of the attributes that makes it unique. windows can do all that stuff with a little work (save boot very fast). But you can't roll it into all into a preconfigured distribution now can you?

Personally I would love to run linux (ubuntu) in my car

Linux definitely uses computer resources more efficiently but it does play nice with GPS and the FE do not have the functionality and support as say a RideRunner. I love geeky things I am a tech by day so switching platform for a great FE is no problem, but it has to offer GPS, a good media player, and a aesthetically pleasing interface can't hurt. Honestly I ran OSX in my car on a mac mini for 8 months but it was ICE3's lack of feature that made cross back over. Although I used Paralells to run a XP VM with Iguidance, and Carnetix running in it wasn't worth the trouble free OSX experience.

BTW, the *last* thing i want is this thread to turn into another Linux vs Windows thread. Windows has it's place in the carpc world and it has earned it. I'd much rather hear why you use CF/RR over anything else if you don't fall into any of the aforementioned categories.

Was it you or Toaster, IDK?

As far as why use CF and RR, you already have my answer. There are just way more features.
