I set my whole system up to use the built in windows UPS software to hibernate my system. I have a relay connected between pins 4 and 8 on one of my com ports, when this connection opens it hibernates the system. The problem is it triggers a critical hibernate instead of a regular hibernate and because of this some programs don't resume properly. Can anyone write a program that will initiate hibernation when the connection between pins 4 and 8 are opened? There are many people who are using the UPS to trigger hibernate, this would help all of them. It took me a long time to find out about this critical hibernate and it wasn't a pleasant surprise.
The wiring is not a problem. I could set it up to use pin 7 RTS as a supply and connect it to pin 8 CTS when I want it to hibernate. I'll need a little help with the rest, I have no clue as to what I would need to make the ExecTBL.ini look like.
Should be fairly simple.. install the plugin as described then adjust the wiring.
If you'll wire it so the relay CLOSES the CTS (8) to RTS (7) when you want to hibernate, then you should only need:
If you wire it the opposite [so the relay OPENS the CTS (8) to RTS (7)] then you'll just need to use the opposite event:
I've never used the serial switch (though I definitely would if needed), but as long as the wiring is done as it asks, it should be simple to work.
