Movie of my Steering Wheel buttons Controlling MediaE.

I recently took a video with my digicam showin my steering wheel controls in action (quicktime, 2.5 MB). It has no sound, and the quality sucks, but you'll get the idea.

I did this using an infrared control module that sends out a trained IR signal for each button, right into the receiver through an eye. It's called the PAC-SWI-X. Let me find a link to it somewhere...

    http://www.go2pac.com/products/swi.htm

The hardest part about doing this was finding the wire that contained a voltage everytime you hit a button. The rest was a snap. Hit the button, then hit a button your remote, repeat. It's made to emulate car radio remotes but it pretty much can accept any remote, and out put its signal to your current IR receiver that you use with your remote (creative, PB, etc.). Hope I can spark some ideas, but then again, chances are this has been done already and I just dont know about it

most impressive job and well done. Looks like all i can do on my setup is push the horn button to shut down my computer since that's my only button. Note to self...... need more buttons.

You should make a tutorial or something for us the less technically oriented people.

Btw, sweet install, looks professional, where did you got the case?
    I'll take donations.

Case and MOBO i got as a package, but the case is not as good as it looks. theres no room for a HD if you have a DVD-ROM drive. and if you get a PCI riser you have to modify the case to even get a pci card in there. I got everything from www.idot.com

As far as a tutorial goes, well I could make one, but I think you can do without it just as easy. Get the PAC-SWI-X and follow the directions on there to the word, just use your carputer remote to program it not your stereo one. Then point the infrared eye of the PAC at your IR receiver that runs to your carputer.
