    "Push To Car" Concept

For anyone that uses an Android 2.2 device, you may know that there is a Chrome and Firefox plugin called "Push to Phone". Basically, if you are on Google Maps or a website, you press "Push To Phone" on the browser and after a few seconds, it shows up on your phone (either in the browser or in google maps).

I figure writing this wouldn't be too difficult and would need a networked machine in between the car and computer.

My thought process goes like this:
    * Browser plugin or stand-alone application take your text/url/address and send it to a machine (could be a Linux box with PHP and MySQL, using SOAP)
    * When your start your car, it opens a stateful connection to the server
    * Looks for new requests that are added to the database

Alternatively, the same can be done from your Android or iOS phone directly to the car.

    Just a thought.

If this exists already, even better!

Don't need a separate PC, just use a web site. Bit like my plugins can download the latest version.

But this would in effect be a push to pull effect.

ie you push the site details to a storage area, be it a PC or website somewhere. The a program/plugin/service on the carpc then pulls that information when the car is turned on.

Or if the car is already on, somebody can push the button and send the website to you. The program/plugin/service would then have to poll the data storageat reguialr occasions.

This is all fairly easy to do.

That functionality went live on Ford's SYNC today. I did a quick search for an api or something, but I think Google is making money off of this "premium feature" for right now and probably doesn't want to share.

Not bad considering Google has been offering that for almost 5 years now....ford just never took advantage until now.

Microsoft had something similar a few years ago. If I remember correctly a MS employee was showing this with a carPC he built. Wish I could find the link.

Still exists...i'm blanking on the name too but it was Microsofts cloud storage concept. The guy demo'd it with Centrafuse but it really had nothing to do with cf they just got the product placement.
