    Newbie with questions...

Hi - I am a member of uk-mkivs, where several members are now taking an interest in developing in car PC's for their cars.

There are a few questions that I have though...

    1) I am planning on using Media engine for the user interface, and was just wondering how here in the UK we could use RDS on the FM tuner?

    2) Will I be able to use a TV tuner card through the interface?

    3) with the FM tuner, will this "follow" the broadcasts i.e. as the frequency of the station changes as you drive along, will the tuner follow the station?

any advice that you guys have to offer would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Chris

as of right now.. only the dlink usb radio is supported by media engine for radio.

as for TV you could run it as a external app.

I know it is only the D-Link USB radio that is supported, but wht Im asking is will this auto follow the broadcasts.

For example Radio 1 in my local area can be recieved on 98.7MHz

However in an area some 50 miles away the frequency is 97.9Mhz.

Car stereos - at least those here in europe have the ability to "follow" these signals, so you do not have to constantly keep tuning your radio.

RDS or Radio Data System, broadcasts the radio station name, traffic announcements etc. I dont think you guys in the states have that.

    UK Forum?

Felix, I am based in Liverpool UK, is their any UK forums that you know about, as I have been traveling to numerous car audio shops etc all day. And no one has ever fitted a car computer. The have all kinds of multimedia apps but when I explain to them what am I doing, they just seem to look at me funny and try to tell me this is not achievable.

If you have any info or know any UK specialists, please e-mail me at leesilk81@hotmail.com.

    Thanks

We do have RDS in the states. Majority of the new GM vehicles come with RDS capable radio. Some of my local stations broadcast RDS signals too though they only broadcast station name. Very few broadcast artist and/or title. None of the radios here "follow" the signal and auto switch stations as you describe. We do have XM and Sirius satellite radio. You can listen to the same station from coast to coast. they're CD quality, and displays artist, title. The only bad part is there's a 10-13 dollar service fee per month.
