Funny thing is, My current system, (Intel D945GLCF2 with 2GB and a crappy old Harddrive) cold boots about a third the time it takes to restore from hibernation/hybrid-sleep. So I've actually set my power button to shut down instead of sleep. Just need OM to support some sort of 'start where you left off' features, and I'll be all set. (computer turns on with my unlock from my key fob, so it's booted up before i get in).

Each of the radios and players have a "Resume playback on startup" setting...but yea if you shutdown looking at the music screen its going to start back up at the main menu. Was that the part your talking about or something else that needs to go on the to do list?

The AMD 2500+ still has more power than most atom boards. If you are putting your desktop operating system in your car, you deserve every bit of slow you get.

I wish someone would post a youtube video of the latest openice 2 in action. I'm interested in it, but I need to see it in action before looking closer.

You should pick an OS that:

    1) you already know OR are willing to learn

    2) Meets your needs for applications and |-|ardware

At this point, Windows is the best option. From there just decide on your requirements. Do you have under 4gb of ram? Then get winxp.
