What is everyone using?
I'm planning to use a bit of a hodgepodge of bits I know work, and try to get them together.
Windows 2000 pro as a base.
Winamp 2.91 with Milkdrop (MP3 and CD Audio).
Zoomplayer (DVD and Video files).
ePSXe (playstation emulation)
Mappoint 2002 and aGPS (GPS mapping and routing with voice).
Girder (Ir remote control).
Binary Metal Digital Theatre as a front end (the original free one, not the Pro, for money one).
All operated by a trackball, and Ir.
I have been looking at Audiosoft eJukebox, which appears pretty slick, even for a pay app. Unfortunatley it doesn't appear stable on my CarPC box (still get tested and built), but works fine on my works PC, both running Win2K. I imagine that it is either an MDAC or Jet engine problem with the Test PC. If it is, I will definatley be paying after the evaluation period.
I am planning to go as follows:
FreeAmp (MP3 and Streaming) chose because it is small, does everything I want, can use with Linux if I change OS later and was easy to skin.
Mame32 (arcade emulation)
TurboLaunch (Start Button replacement for organizing programs in categories) set buttons huge so can use with touchscreen.
Binary Metal Digital Theater looks pretty spiffy but holy crap they have way to much space wasted on rounded corners, open areas and gradient colors. The default font size is at least 2 pt to small. From the screen shots I can barely read anything. They need to keep it basic with some nice fat Arial fonts.
The Pro, paid for version.
Is very funky but as you say, very small fonted.
I was looking at the more basic one as a front end only, to other apps.
You can get it
Here . I assume it was the original college student development site that went on to become Binary Metal the business.
Simpler. The app is skinnable by making your own image, and then scripting the ini/config type file to do what you want with it, you are stuck with the basic button structure type of thing.
