Wanted: Programmer who wants to play with DAB+ option

Hi there,

I just read this thread and I am wondering what has been happening with the results?

It's been over 6 months since the last reply, so does that mean the project is dead? :(

That main reason I ask is I am very interested in adding a DAB+ feature to my car-pc and as I've already written an mp3 player for it, was also interested in seeing if I could add DAB support to it too...

I have searched the internet about it a fair bit and it seems it might be fairly tricky to do, esp without any SDK :P

So how are the results going, and do you need any help?

The SDK is pretty average and doesn't give access to all the DAB+ info. Not sure if there's any real way around it using the supplied drivers/interface.

Also I couldn't get the DirectShow filters to work unless I installed the rubbish software that came with it. Even though it appeared to support FFDshow I couldn't get it to properly decode the DAB+ AAC codecs here in Brisbane. I did succeed in a very basic tune using the C# work that one of the others here used (alnicol)

The RTL-SDR are doing everything from scratch but seem more interested in receiving things other than normal radio e.g. GSM, LTE etc.

I haven't found any other software or code that can use this stick as a regular DAB/DAB+ tuner.

I don't actually have that stick but have a kaiser baas one, and I'm sure none of the sticks out there will be compatible with any other brand of stick, so the main problem in writing some kind of software to access DAB+ would be to choose a stick which gave you the easiest way of accessing it, or has the best SDK support to help understand how to utilize it to the fullest.

The software that comes with the kaiser baas is a joke, which is one of the main reasons why i wish to write my own interface, though i have no problems in buying a different brand one if that will make things easier for me :)

If it's still the RTL2832 chipset it should be all basically the same and the SDK should work. Is yours an RTL2832?

I don't understand where the tuner part fits in though since some of the devices come with different tuners (talked about on the RTL-SDR mailing list)

Yes, there are no standards for any of this sort of DAB/DAB+ driver it seems which makes it quite difficult to support across multiple devices.

The ezcap software is functional and works but is pretty crappy even though it's a commercial product. The SDK demo is just enough to play a station. However even then it won't play DAB+ like we have with just the drivers installed. It needs the codec from the commercial package to decode the AAC stream.

The kaiser baas uses the 'DiB7770P' hardware, and it seems to be the only stick that uses that type :(

I have no problems in buying a different stick, as they are all very affordable. I might have to do some more research to find which model would be a better choice for programming it, has ease of use, features, etc...

It's a bit more complicated than just some DLL calls. The way the SDK works is you set up DirectShow filter chains to do the decoding. Also the DLL doesn't expose a few things like song data etc that can be sent alongside the actual audio.

Yes the model I have is an ezcap and really I'm looking for a Windows solution since the rest of my CarPC software is written in .NET 2.0

I've been keeping a pretty keen eye on this thread since starting my carputer build in my Nissan Patrol 3 months ago. I've nearly got everything working based on all the forums except for GPS and FM/DAB+ radio.

I purchased this EZcap USB radio from here http://dx.com/p/dvb-t-digital-tv-usb...-dab-dab-44326 for $20 delivered to Brisbane last month.
I have managed to get normal FM working through the crappy software it comes with, but not integrated into RR, but I'd like to get working well in RR. Has anyone been able to do this? It uses the aforementioned RTL2832 chipset too.

Another issue I'm having is when this is plugged into a USB hub it can be a little intermittent with working. Maybe this would be better suited to being plugged in directly to the motherboard's usb port rather than a hub? Any suggestions?

Hope to hear that someone in AUS has the same setup as me (or very similar) and has it working!

I got some basic stuff working yes but the SDK is very limited and doesn't provide some of the nice features like now playing, images etc. It required specific DirectShow filters to work for DAB+ in my experience. I needed the included software to get it to work.

It has to use an analogue line out to a line in of your PC and it's not really a commercial product (i.e. it needs a case in particular) but it seems to be much better supported in terms of an SDK (although it's a little clunky)
