Thread: Windows 8 CARPC install

There's a thread around here somewhere on this very subject.

I think folks using older/slower systems will likely see some pretty significant improvements in their startup times. For those using more modern EFI type bios and faster SSDs, the difference is not so significant. I have a ASUS P8H67 board and I'm to the windows desktop in a little under 10 seconds from a cold boot (post included). Of course, we're no where near a release build of Win8, so a lot could change in the next year.

I tested Centrafise 4.0 on a Win8 tablet (Atom single core 1.6) and performed pretty well. I didn't have any peripherals attached, so it's difficult to sayt how thingfs would work in a true "production" environment, but first impressions were positive.

I just installed it today, disabled Metro, hopefully got everything working right
Will see how it goes over the next few days.

I have them on my desktop. they rule ***. but they are not yet ready for carpc. when they are there will be no use to having centrafuse and other front ends. metrostyle is designed for that reasson...

Well, so far i don't like it.. it starts and closes quick, but the radio module only starts up every now and then (though i'm not sure if it's because of windows 8 or the new RR), and the sound doesn't seem as 'full' as it did with Win 7
RR doesn't auto start...

dont forget they are not ready yet all the game will be played with the metro style apps. it dosent metter if rr dosent auto start, cause you are not going to be needing it. when win8 will have appps for ALL the things yo uare going to need (media , maps , or whatever) u wont be needing stuff like CF. i know it seems strange but dont goerget RR and CF are just programs.. win 8 is OS designed for that kind of staff... plus + the voice recognitions seems to be going to be IMBA! also there is no "i dont like metro style" you can castumize it too look whatever you like it too...

That is like saying there is no "i don't like RR" because you can customize skins. There will always be a need for a different UI application since no software can do everything and look and function exactly as everyone wants. I'm sure it will be good for some people and bad for others.

the thing that's going to push me back to win7 is the fact that something isn't working right with the radio not starting up properly
Maybe the way windows initializes the hardware isn't compatible with the 'Ultimate radio' module?
anyone else got Craigs module and using it with Win 8?
