    Any Ideas?
    Hi chut,

    Glad to hear you got 4am Music Console working (thanks Vittel for providing the answer )

    The reason you aren't progressing beyond the loading screen is because the lastest version of Macromedia Flashplayer has not been installed. To download the latest version visit: http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/

    This should solve the problem, let me know if you have any other questions.

    a little suggestion that might make it easier for skin development:
    i do not know where the point system for the current skins came from, they may have a reason, but my suggestion is for the xml skins, how about using percentages as the measurement system. btw, where did the current system come from anyway? i figured it out to be ~11.7 pts/pixel. just wondering

    Glad to see it worked chut... hopefully you'll enjoy the program

    dellysse_com,
    I agree the skin system is confusing as it stands, and percentage wise is one way to develop the skin. The future version will be xml templates however the measurement system is still undecided. Here's how the current system came about, VB programming! I decided to follow vb's measurements unit of twips, which on most computers is 15 twips = 1 pixel.

    Now the reason you came up with 11.7pts/pixel is because you are developing the skin at 1024. Here's how the system actually works: The canvas you have to work with is 12000pts x 9000pts (which at 15pts/pixel is 800x600). Now if you decide to create the skin at another resolution the pts/pixel will automatically be scaled. The one benefit of this is that you can have the same skin settings ini files for each resoultion skin, because the scaling is done internally by just keeping in mind that regardless of the resoultion the skin was designed for, it will always be relative to a canvas size of 12000x9000 (for 4:3) and 12000x6750 (for 16:9), ie the width will always be 12000pts.

    So that's basically how the skin structure has been developed to date, and hopefully that short explaination goes towards explaining some of the development issues. Also the help file with 4am Music Console also touches briefly on the calculations (mainly for making sure your cover images are displayed at best clairty, for desiging skins this maybe useful information.)

    Let me know if you have any more questions, also there is another skin being developed, for which there is discussion on the OvernightTech forums which may be useful.

    So do the lines
    [window sizing]
    preferredWidth = 1024
    preferredHeight = 768
    actually mean anything, or are they just there for reference?

    also, what would you suggest, as in drawing/image editing programs, as to which would be best for use in designing a skin. as you can see in the attachment, i am no artist at all, and have maxed out what i can do in the graphics department sans compter aided help.

    ps. the reason there is no attachment is because i am still using paint, and the bmp was over 2 megs, but i think you get the point

    the those lines are significant, because when the skin is not maximized (fullscreen scaled), it determines the regular resolution to use for the skin, and also determines the scaling factor.

    Personally I use photoshop, however it's a rather expensive program, so something like paint shop pro is also good for general use such as this. The good thing about skins is it's more about layout, because besides that everything is pretty simple box fills and stuff.

    Also make sure to save those images as jpgs in the end

    thx for the tips on software to use.

    i still dont see how the pixel resolution numbers are needed, if the measurements are in twips for all objects, and that a twips is a different size according to the resolution. wouldnt that create the scaling factor?

    The [window sizing] numbers need to be in pixel format because internally they are recognized differently than the twips format used for the rest of the skin.ini file. I don't actually want to explain why it's different, please just accept that they need to specified in pixel format.

    I found the 4am programs a coulpe days ago and I love them. Simple interface, yet it's visually pleasing and has a bit of a "Wow, cool screen dude" look to it.

    One problem i'm havign is the Media Console will shut down after about five minutes of inactivity. If I have a movie playing, stop the movie after 10 minutes or so, there's no media console loaded, not even minimized.

    Anything I can do to remedy that? If so, my $25 is on it's way. Perfect software otherwise.

    Thanks,

    Kurt
