why? my control dll is already an activex dll
hey everybody, not really new here, just recently registered. I am a carputer owner since 2006 and a visual basic programmer.
i have been writing and running carputer apps for my personal use to mimic the ease and function of an aftermarket car stereo. Ive since taken the time to sit down and decode the serial communications and am going to write an ocx for the hdradio control.
would anybody else be interested in this? ive been working on my own front end for 6 years now and maybe somebody will be interested in that too. but back to the hdradio, pls let me know if anybody is interested...i dont wanna make my code all nice and pretty and user friendly if nobody else cares.

I think there's definitely a user base here who would like to see the inner workings. I'd be interesting in snooping a bit provided it was freely available![]()

sorry mitch, i didnt realize one was floating around. I asked you years ago for the code when i bought my cable from you and never got a response back. then life got really busy and my carpc project got put on a shelf for years, i havent been around these forums in 5 or 6 years now. plus, i would feel guilty about using somebody else's work, especially if i develop a front end worth selling. an ocx file would also be easier for inexperienced programmers to work with and might help somebody, just drop a control in from the toolbox and read or set properties.
as far as the inner workings go, im not sure if i want to release them yet. i want to help the community out, but also want to protect my butt. a reverse engineered program or control still leaves a lot of work to be done because the compiler renames all your functions and variables and deletes all your comments. with that being said, i feel pretty comfortable giving out a "plugin" to help others incorporate hdradio while relieving them of the work required writing the source code
FWIW, there is open source Visteon/Directed control software out there. I wrote a plugin for my frontend: https://gitorious.org/revfe/revfe/tr...ins/revhdradio And I know the old linuxice/nghost had one, but I'm not sure where the source code is.
It should help with some of the serial protocol information. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and I will help in anyway I can, even if you decide not to open source your stuff.
Is there interest in a .NET hdradio control?
there are no secrets here, anyone can look at the serial protocol, but if you are going to sell a product, and want to use my code, its not problem at all
just get a hold of my privately
