hey guys. i am installing an android head unit into an 08 chevy. the android head unit has wires labeled canbus control cables rx and tx. this makes me believe that is is possible to attach these wires to the gm hi speed lan and gain control over door locks, power windows, starter, and even datastream without elm327 device. i need input as to wether this is plausible/possible and if so how? i am not good at writing software, certainly not in android os. but i am so enticed by these wires. i need input here from anybody with any type of experience in doing this.
What device are you using?
@AutoWiz - i have a little experience with car bus stuff and Android but i have no idea what head unit you have or how it's designed to work with those canbus wires... unfortunately (as we are discussing in another thread...) the GMLAN low-speed bus that deals with door locks and such is a special single wire protocol and i'm doubting the CAN transceiver in your head unit will work with it... but could you tell us more info like what vehicle and post any datasheet links or other info you have for the head unit?
update - assuming you find a way to move forward with the project, this might help: The GMLAN Bible...

I know I'm late to the table here, but I would have thought it was so your head unit could monitor for steering wheel controls. But other data could be grabbed if it indeed had the right stuff and software.
