You need a noise cancelling mic for it to work.you can sometimes get by with cheaper style mic but not reliably.if you want it to work all the time everytime..you want a andrea DA-350.they are the best of the bunch.i have a spare one if you want it.it cost me a bit under $50 aussie.id be happy to sell it to you for what i paid for it.

Yes most peeps that are using voice, have that microphone and some even have the soho noice cancelling card as well. There is a thread with all the trials and errors and solutions using a microphone in the car. I would jump on that price for that mic happy feet, you won't be disappointed SNO

I have the da-350 also. I sometimes have a hard time with it while driving on the freeway, but it is as good of a noise canceling mic as you can get in the under $400 price range. I'm just getting into voice recognition but it looks real promising, especially when using Driveline.

rray you should try and get your hands on this http://www.phnxaudio.com/mt101 makes a big difference. There is a hack to solder the power and ground wires unless you have an open pci slot available, it only gets power and ground from slot. SNO

My microphone setup in my car is pretty awful. I use the mic that is built into my webcam, and the webcam is pointing out the front window, so the mic isn't even pointed at me. Still, most commands work if all the windows are up. However, that may be because I went through two rounds of the Windows Voice Training. I imagine that having a high-quality microphone pointed at my face would make things much better. I'm going to see if there is a way to mount a mic onto my steering wheel without it looking awkward.

As far as DriveLine is concerned, the update that I am working on makes voice commands much more functional. Prior to this, DriveLine included just enough voice-command programming to confirm that it worked. Now, it's becoming a much more important part of the software. When you talk to the PC, and it talks back to you, it can be pretty cool.

When i first set my new mic up i did a few tests...windows down 100kmph in a big noisey 4x4..the andrea got about 90% of my centrafuse voice commands.i was super impressed...its struggling right now but my carpc needs a windows cleanup and a hardware tidy up.im confident i can get it back to where it was...ive also tried the phoenix mt107a and a standalone unit with the supplied mics..perfect for phone dutys..not fantastic for voice commands in a 4x4..also ran the andrea superbeam and usb adapter without success.if someone wants the superbeam and the andrea usb adapter im happy to post it if you cover my costs.could be good in a quiet car
