win 98 SE

I have been searching on getting windows 98 second edition on my car pc for a couple of days now, and have been stuck. this is the only thing preventing from going on with my project. my friends and i would like to see this thing going this weekend, bought everything just can't install my sound card w/o win 98 se. my car pc doesn't have internet access, so i'll most likely download it from a computer with windows xp. i've been told to go on microsoft.com and i'll find it there, well maybe it's something real easy to find, but i have been searching for a good while now and nothing.

the laptop has windows 98 on it right now. i'm having some software conflict with it, so i need to get SE. I want the link to get the updates and patches and what not. One thing though, i don't want to lose what i currently have on my hard drive. Is this going to be possible? thanks for your help.

Don't think you can patch win98 to be win98se, you can get close, but not actually there. win98se is a separate product.

that didnt make alot of sence, you can buy a MSFT 98SE Update and upgrade your windows 98. As for your sound card, you need drivers or Win98SE files??

i need win 98 se. the usb sound card i got said it needed at least win 98SE or later to install on the laptop when i tried the install.

if i do a full install, will it erase whatever i have on my hard drive? if a full install erases what i have on my hard drive i might be able to get win 2000. will this be a better option over win 98SE?

but right now the upgrade, is my best be cause it doesn't erase what's on my hard drive correct?

correct, and trust me you would rather have WIN98SE if you dont have to have 2000 or XP with 2000 your boot time will nearly be doubled.

also, yes you can upgrade to 2000 (I believe) without erasing your files. Just dont convert the drive to NTFS when it asks you

No. Doing a full install over the current operating system will only replace the windows system files. Any other stuff on your hard drive will still be there when you're done. When it asks if you want to save a backup copy of your old OS, you'll probably want to say no. It'll just take up space.
