Is it just me or is winamp really unstable...?

I have just installed 2.91 on my machine mainly because im configuring it with girder on the prototype box, and i have been really impressed with its features and the plugins available like the visulizatons which are going to look so cool on my CarPlayer.

But for stability its been sucking *** in a big way its seems to fall over and hate mulit-tasking has anyone had similar problems with this version?

Can someone point me to a more stable version.......i avoided V3 because of issues and it seems i picked the wrong substitute....

    many thanks......

I am using v.2.91 on xp in my car and on one my home machines and have not witnessed any instability that I can blame on Winamp. I always run IE 6.0 and Outlook on my machine along with Winamp. sorry no problems here. I rebuild my machines at least every six months. Maybe that is why.

It's been running great for me also. Actually even Winamp3 (which sucks horribly bad) has not even crashed too many times.

    speaking of winamp,
Ive been trying to figure this one out for a while.
A lot of people seem to like this program, but for the life of me when ever i try to use it, the audio quality it puts out is just too bad for my taste. Now i know what your gonna say, get some better speakers and sound card. Got all that. SBLive and THX certified 200watt 5.1 speakers that i absolutely love. The only 2 mp3 players ive used that have good sound quality IMO are musicmatch jukebox and real one player. But everyone seems to hate realone player. I just dont like the company that makes it and how they crap over good software with spyware and crap like that. So i use musicmatch, but other than good sound quality its missing a lot of features and plugin support the other players have that i want.

    Is it just me?

Yes, the EQ is the first place i go. Without it everything sounds like crap. It just seems with winamp and other players the music sounds like it has almost no bass in it and not enough treble either. I have to crank both of them way up and turn the bass all the way up on my sub woofers and im still left with much to be desired. Im still contemplateing what player im going to use in my car pc, music match in my opinion sounds the best but the interface is in no way friendly to a small 7in screen and there seems to be almost no choices for skins, and none of the front end software (media engine, etc) use it for audio. So im hoping that my HU in my car can make the audio sound better when i toss the pc in.

Oh, and all my mp3s are ripped at 320k and some of the CD's i have that i really like are .wav files. So it leaves me with no other place to point the finger other than the player/decoder. One thing i think im going to try though is moving my speakers and sound card to a different computer and see what the results are. A week or so a go someone posted about this player called quentisential player (QCD) and that it was way better than winamp. So i downloaded it and gave it a try and I too though i had finally found the one player that had everything. I was at work when i tested it out and thought it was great. Should of seen the smile on my face as i discovered feature after feature. When i got home i was very disappointed Almost to the point of sending an email to the coders and ask what the hell is there problem. How could they make an app that seems flawless in every aspect except the sound quality, the EQ is even a joke and seems to take a few seconds before any changes you make actually change the sound output. Anyway, im just venting now, i'll stop here.

yes it is, i wish i knew someone who was as into music and mp3's as much as i am and had a really nice setup so i can go to there house and check it out. Most of the people i know personaly dont really care and most of there mp3's are low bit rates with bundled speakers that came with the PC.
